Watch your legislators on immigration

Two issues to watch in the General Assembly: Illegal alien drivers licenses and constitutional official English.

While the national news frenzy is focused on terrorists in America and the varying degrees of determination of presidential candidates to address them, Georgians may want to take some time to pay attention to what happens in the General Assembly in Atlanta. We have our own security problems here and the real powers that dictate government in our state have little interest in allowing pro-enforcement solutions.

Voters should treat the current session as a carefully monitored, two-month campaign for re-election by our state legislators.

Republican-controlled Georgia is issuing drivers licenses, official state photo ID cards and public benefits — including unemployment benefits — to the illegal aliens President Obama has officially promised to not deport under his dubious “deferred action” on enforcement program. About 20,000 illegals in Georgia have benefited.

The powerful business lobby under the Gold Dome has ordered this reward practice to quietly continue. So it will. And much of the Republican base has apparently accepted this as the new normal. But there is now push to at least alter the actual drivers license document given to these “victims of borders” who lack legal immigration status so that it doesn’t look almost exactly like the ones U.S. citizens are given and use as ID when they vote. Or board an airliner. Or rent a car. Or buy explosives.

SB 6, written to exclude all illegal aliens from a Georgia driver’s license, had to be modified to try to safeguard our security and still get past the powerful Georgia Chamber of Commerce lobby by changing the appearance of the card given to illegals so that there is no confusion on the illegal status of the bearer. It would not be a “license” but a “driver privilege card” that is only valid for driving.

As someone who has spent the last decade watching unreported legislative antics under the Gold Dome up-close and in person, this writer urges all voters to pay attention. Maybe get some solid, irreversible commitments from your legislators about whose side they are on.

It is also important to note that the current written test for a Georgia driver’s license is administered in 11 languages in Georgia. With SR 675, legislators will have the opportunity to allow all Georgia voters to answer a ballot question when we vote for president in November 2016 on changing that fact and making English the official constitutional language of government in the Peach State.

Georgia has more illegals than Arizona. On illegal immigration, readers who hope for change in Republican-controlled Georgia should be watching GOP state legislators in the coming election year.

Illegal immigration is the single most important issue.  It changes everything, from those who can vote, those who will vote and those who will vote for Democrats.  If Democrats get their way, and amnesty is granted, that is creating a voting block for the Democrats.  That in turn changes limited government, welfare and the basic foundations our country was founded, because in today's environment todays immigrants aren't your grandfather/grandmothers immigrants.   Todays immigrants, mainly illegal, rely on support from the middle class to fund a welfare system for them, if not intentionally then systematically.  Before the Great Society implementation, immigrants had to rely on hard work and support themselves.  Today, the middle class does that.  There needs to be a moratorium on even legal immigration, to give those who arrive here time to assimilate, learn our lanquage and identify with the foundations of this country.   Contact your legislators and tell them how you feel about this issue.  20 years ago, Georgia was not a home base for illegals.  Today you can find little Mexico in Atlanta, since the majority of illegals are from Mexico or south of the border. Not too many Europeans crossing the Rio Grande...

Nice of you to try and stoke fear into us. What would happen after illegals became Democrats E? WW3? ---------------- Maybe the GOP party should move towards a more socially acceptable position and those "illegals" might vote for the GOP, if the platform was acceptable. Instead of trying to drive a wedge into the immigration discussion, maybe you could consider the 2010 Immigration Bill that the GOP walked away from and be consructive to solve the issue in an intelligent way. ------> FACTS on Immigration - The CBO has posted that the Democratic proposal in 2010 for immigration would decrease the budget by $900 Billion !!!!  How's that for austerity minded peope? CBO report:  https://www.cbo.gov/publication/45206 ------->Under the proposal, illegal immigrants currently in the United States would be eligible for legal status in eight years, as long as they learned English, had not committed a crime and paid their taxes. The federal government would increase funding for border security and require all American workers get a new version of their Social Security card that would include a biometric identifier to protect against the creation of counterfeits.   ------->Link to the proposal: http://demshouse.wideeyeclient.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Summary-of-HR-15.pdf. ------>The question that will always remain is what plan do the republicans have? Kick them all out? Smart idea to lose all those taxes and increase the CBP and Homeland Security with 1,000s of new people and equipment. Sounds like bigger government again, if this is the plan. Go GOP! They talk about smaller government and lower taxes, but pass bills that do the exact opposite (but at least its bigger government for the GOP issues.......am I right? Can I get an Amen?)
We must not allow the criminal illegal aliens to continue to degrade our culture, political makeup, and way of life.   They must be denied any type of welfare or funding from American taxpayers.  This is America, a sovereign nation, and the illegals must have the full force of our laws imposed upon them so that they understand that the free ride is over.  Contact your congressman and senator and demand that illegals be deported.

Immigration....   Unfortunately, the Federal Government has failed us all.  And to think some prescribe to the idea of government managed health care. Good Gawd.
