New Yorker develops a Senoia state of mind

For some people a New Year’s resolution might suffice. But for New York City resident Tracy Brady, the new year will bring something more akin to an aspiration realized. Years in the making, that aspiration will soon bring Tracy to her new “home” in Senoia.

Brady grew up in New Jersey, lived in Boston for seven years and has lived in Manhattan for nearly nine years. But with all the time in the northeast, there was something missing.

Christmas tree recycling Jan. 4 in Peachtree City

The annual “Bring One for the Chipper” program will be accepting Christmas trees for recycling on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Three locations will be up and running this year between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Trees can be dropped off at the Peachtree City Recycling Center on Ga. Highway 74 south, behind the Kedron Kroger and in the parking lot of the Peachtree City Home Depot.

Those donating their old Christmas tree will receive a free tree seedling while supplies last. Trees should be free of all lights, tinsel and ornaments. Read More»

Fayette students clean up 700 pounds of trash along Line Creek

The Adopt-a-Stream students from McIntosh High School and students from Sandy Creek High School’s Key Club combined one sunny Saturday morning recently and collected 700 pounds of trash along the course of Line Creek in western Fayette County.

The 65 volunteers were part of a Rivers Alive cleanup event sponsored by the Fayette County Environmental Management Department and the town of Tyrone. Rivers Alive is an annual volunteer waterway cleanup that targets all waterways in Georgia. This group picked up trash and debris along Line Creek. Read More»

PTC Garden Tour May 4 features lush landscapes

The Fayette County Master Gardener Association, made up of master gardener Extension volunteers with the University of Georgia Extension Service, will conduct the annual plant sale and garden tour Saturday, May 4. Hundreds of plants for flower and vegetable gardening as well as landscaping will be available. The plant sale will offer flowers, shrubs, herbs, vegetables, and trees, many of which are native plants, for purchase. Read More»

Master Gardeners prepare for plant sale

Twenty-five Fayette County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers took a one-day propagation class recently at the State Botanical Garden in Athens. Conservation Horticulturist Heather Alley (center) talked about collecting tips, breaking dormancy (changes in temperature, water and light), grow buckets, grow lights, growing media and the many published and online resources available.
