Good Samaritans, not the government, rescued her

Fayette County Realtor Kay Sams Fulp drove up to Cobb County last week to do a walk-through with a client.

The forecast for Jan. 28 called for snow later in the day, but schools were open. She figured she’d be back before the storm hit. She left home with a full tank of gas, wearing a bulky sweater and a scarf but no coat.

“I mean, I was just running out,” she said.

John Leonard, age 85

We celebrated the life of John Leonard on Friday, February 7th at 10:30 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City.

John passed away on February 3rd after a brief illness. He was 85 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years – Madeline, 5 children – John, Helen, Katherine, Michael and Peter, and 5 grandchildren – Anthony, Lisa, Christina, Andrew and James. Read More»

William Henry Newman III, age 74, of Peachtree City

William “Bill” Henry Newman III, age 74, of Peachtree City, Ga. passed away on February 4, 2014.

He was born in Atlanta, Ga. on February 8, 1939 to the late Bill and Mable Newman. He was raised in the Ben Hill area. He graduated from Brown High School. He was a US Army Veteran.

He spent his entire life defending and protecting animals. He was the Director of the Fayette County Animal Shelter where he retired after 24 years of service. His beloved dog, BJ retired with him. Read More»

The Peachtree City Council tonight postponed its decision on a potential traffic light for Ga. Highway 54 West and Line Creek Drive to serve a new shopping center.

Council also tabled consideration of the shopping center developer's request to allow a road from the shopping center to link with Planterra Way. Both matters will be revisited at the Feb. 20 council meeting. The postponement will give council time to read the traffic study presented by Trinity Development. Read More»

Senoia-PTC cart path link off council agenda

New proposal: $125K hike to summer concert budget for 'higher level' acts

A proposal to authorize linking Peachtree City’s cart path to Senoia has been removed from the agenda for tonight’s city council meeting.

In another last minute agenda change, council will consider a $125,000 increase in the budget for the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater to allow it to book “higher level acts” as the amphitheater celebrates the 20th anniversary of the summer concert series. Read More»

PTCUMC’s Global Impact Celebration starts today

Peachtree City United Methodist Church’s Global Impact Celebration (GIC) starts this evening at its Worship Ministry Center, 225 Robinson Rd. The event continues through Feb. 9.

The celebration is open to the public and will feature speakers from around the world and around the neighborhood, with events for all ages.

PTC crews got the jump on snow by pretreating roads

In the hours prior to the Jan. 28 snowstorm, public works crews in Peachtree City pretreated all bridges and major intersections with salt and sand in an effort to combat what would become a significant winter weather event.

The city staggered its staff into two seven-man crews working 12-hour shifts in an effort to get ahead of the accumulation and maintain areas that were pre-treated, according to Community Services Director Jon Rorie. Read More»

Chick-fil-A scraps plans for westside PTC store

Company to keep 54E store open while looking for place to expand in PTC

Plans have fallen through for a new Chick-fil-A restaurant that was planned to open along Ga. Highway 54 West at Line Creek Drive in Peachtree City, the company confirmed Tuesday.

The upshot is that the company will keep its current store on Hwy. 54 East open, a company spokesperson said. The company is also “eager to expand within the Peachtree City area” and is currently exploring other location possibilities, according to spokesperson Mark Baldwin. Read More»

PTC may hire own in-house landscapers for parks, roads

3 private companies would get other work for $278,000

A proposal to improve Peachtree City’s landscaping results involves the city hiring four full-time and two seasonal/temporary employees to handle landscaping along primary and secondary roads, along with city facilities and parks.

At the same time, the city would use three different companies to handle specific tasks: highway landscaping maintenance, right-of-way tree trimming on primary and secondary roads and landscaping for subdivision and city landscape islands.
