Concerns with future stormwater runoff on the south side of Pye Lake could have a resolution Feb. 6 when the Fayetteville City Council considers establishing the Pye Lake Southern Tributary Special Watershed District.

Local officials begin assessing response to Snow Jam 2014

Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb in a file photo from fall 2013.

With the snow gone and the black ice melted, the assessments of Snow Jam 2014 begin: What happened, who responded well, who didn’t, and why?

The Citizen interviewed public safety and public works officials from around the county on Monday to explain their part in the events that unfolded during the middle of the day on Jan. 28.

Unlike the winter storm that hit in 2011 and deposited significantly more ice on county roadways, the one last week came in the middle of the day and caught the school system, employers and many motorists by surprise and — in many cases —unprepared. Read More»

How GOP can win national elections

With the start of the 2014 election run-up, I think it is important for those of us who share a belief in small, constitutionally limited government to agree on a strategy to bring as many people into the tent as possible.

This is a reiteration of an earlier letter. For our country to continue to function in a democratic form in the future this is essential. A few more Democrat administrations like Obama’s and we will effectively be a dictatorship.

To win on the national level, we have to restrict which issues we will campaign upon in the national elections. Read More»

Global warming zealots’ first problem: I like it warm

I would like to disagree with Mr. Paul Lentz on several things on global warming. The reason they changed it to climate change is when the left starts getting pushed back from whatever they are pushing, then they change the name to camouflage their agenda.

I noticed Mr. Lentz used the words “arctic vortex” which is an old term in weather circles, and it was used to scare the people . It probably started from the Weather Channel; they like to scare people. I would like to say up front I like warm weather. Read More»
