Inman United Methodist Church, 151 Hills Bridge Rd., Fayetteville, invites all children to get cookin’ at Shake it up Cafe’ Vacation Bible School which begins Sunday, July 17 and ends on Thursday, July 21. Heritage Christian to host WinShape C3 Day Camp

Registration is still open for Winshape C3 Camp, which will be hosted by Heritage Christian Church, July 11-15. The day camp is open to all students who have completed first through sixth grade. Camp runs from 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Cost is $179 for a full week of camp. A deposit of $50 is due upon registration.

Several members of the youth group from Rolling Hills Baptist Church, along with parents, recently participated in a “Monday Mission” at the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home in Palmetto,

The group played Ultimate Frisbee with the children at the home, and then got down to some hard work spreading dirt, cleaning out some rock beds, and miscellaneous other tasks that the staff at the home needed help with.

Monday Missions is an annual youth service program conducted by Rolling Hills that keeps teens busy during summer vacation serving others. Read More»

Caterpillar to add 200 jobs, $120 million investment in Griffin engine assembly plant

The local economy next door in Spalding County just received a boost with the June 29 announcement that Caterpillar, Inc. will create 200 jobs and invest $120 million in its Griffin facility.

Gov. Nathan Deal on June 29 said Caterpillar will make a major investment in its Griffin Engine Center in Spalding County. The Peoria, Ill.-based company will create at least 200 jobs and invest $120 million in machinery, equipment and upgrades to the existing facility, Deal said.

National clearinghouse for chemical exposure a Fayette idea

For former Fayette County resident Connie Biemiller Thomas, it was a journey that began in the summer of 2006 and ended earlier this month. The journey involved the advocacy for her community in the wake of a chemical release that affected more than 2,000 households in Fayette and south Fulton counties and ended with a recommendation by a national panel that the federal government establish the national Office of the Chemical Emergencies Coordinator to serve as a clearinghouse for communities to access when they are exposed to releases of industrial chemicals.
