Property owners in Fayette County could be seeing a slight drop in the millage rate and an even more minuscule rise in overall tax revenue after the Board of Commissioners considers the 2014 millage at Thursday night’s regular meeting.

The proposed general fund millage rate is 5.602, down almost 2 percent from the current 5.714 mills. There would be no change in the millage for fire services, EMS services and E-911 services. Read More»

A proposal before the Fayette County Commission to have the county assist the circa 1825 Hopeful Primitive Baptist Church on Ga. Highway 92 with the installation of a water meter and a sidewalk to the historic cemetery did not pass muster at the Aug. 14 meeting. But a press release issued Aug. 18 had commissioners asking the public to donate to the effort to restore and preserve the historic church.

The historic church at the corner of Hwy. 92 and New Hope Road is among the oldest structures in Fayette County. It is also the burial site of many who died nearly 200 years ago. Read More»

Coweta County looks to adopt unchanged millage rate

The 2014 millage rate to be set by the Coweta County Commission on Aug. 19 is expected to remain the same as last year, though increases in property values will result in more taxes collected and, technically, a tax increase.

Commissioners are considering adopting the same millage rate as last year, which will result in more total property tax revenue than last year due to an increase in property values. However, if a property has not been reassessed and the value has been constant, the tax will also remain the same as last year, county officials said. Read More»
