Mildred Colley Moore, 85, of Fayetteville, died June 7, 2010.

She was a member of the White County Historical Society. Her love for Hawaiian music was showcased in the Atlanta area by playing for the troops and a WSB radio in the early 1940s.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by husband Harold E. Moore, sister Elizabeth Bishop and brother Eugene Colley, Jr. She is survived by her sisters Mary Helen Colley Bryan of Newnan and Marjorie Colley Volmar of Fayetteville and several nieces and nephews. Read More»

James Lewis “Jay” Jackson, Jr. of Fayetteville

James Lewis “Jay” Jackson, Jr. passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010.

He was born on March 23, 1970. Jay was a 1988 graduate of Fayette County High School and a graduate of West Georgia University. He was employed by the Fulton County Board of Education as a special needs teacher. An avid golfer, Jay enjoyed playing golf with and being with his golfing buddies. Mrs. Leggett was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Freeman.

Curtis Jackson, 94, of Fayetteville, WWII veteran

Curtis Jackson, 94, of Fayetteville, died June 2, 2010.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific. Mr. Jackson retired from the FAA, Southern Region. A packed house crowded inside the American Legion Log Cabin in downtown Fayetteville to pay honor and respect to America’s heroes who have served our country and given the ultimate sacrifice: their lives.

The event, normally given gravitas by virtue of its location in Fayetteville’s historic cemetery, was moved indoors due to the threat of rain. But it did not damper the spirits of the audience nor the speakers. Read More»

Children’s clothing retailer to bring 100 IT jobs to F’ville

It was an opening without the usual fanfare even though it will relocate nearly 100 jobs to Fayetteville.

National retailer Carter Children’s Clothing Company, Inc. in early May took advantage of Fayetteville’s Quality Jobs Grant Program and relocated its Information Technology (IT) center to offices on Brandywine Boulevard off Ga. Highway 54.

The city’s Quality Jobs Grant Program is similar to the programs that helped bring NCR to Peachtree City, said City Manager Joe Morton. The base salary level required to qualify for the grant was set at $50,000, Morton said. Read More»

‘New Hope in Haiti’ ministry will hold concert for orphans Saturday night

Christian recording artists John Waller and Julian Drive are joining with New Hope in Haiti, a ministry of New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, for a silent auction and benefit concert to raise funds to relocate Maison d’Enfants Par La Foi, a Haitian orphanage, to a safer location following January’s earthquake.

The orphanage is near high crime areas and children are frightened and traumatized.

The event, New Home, New Life, New Hope, will be held Saturday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m., at Heritage Christian Church, 2130 Redwine Rd, Fayetteville. Read More»
