Now Huntsman is out so it's Newt, Perry and Santorum against Mitt.
Romney was good against Newt on Bain at the opening. This was the end of the Bain story?
Perry pricked Mitt on the making his income tax public issue.
Santorum absolutely owned Romney on the voting rights for felons issue and then came back and destroyed Mitt's super PAC disambiguations saying they were crap. His calling on Mitt to control his Super Pac and tell them to "Stop it" was strong.
Perry's answer about something that ended with him accusing Obama of instigating a war on religion I didn't follow. I was thinking what? what? and then the audience applauded and I was still wondering what his point was. I'm not convinced that this was my fault.
Santorum was good on how ridiculous 99 weeks of unemployment insurance is and dominated that issue.
Newt was great on his "Work is good, I'll help you if you help yourself". It was the first time Newt was noticeable.
Ron Paul's "You consider a billion dollars building an embassy in Iraq as defense spending, I consider it waste" may have been the best line of the night.
Romney's answer on releasing his income tax records was great to watch. He was "not opposed" to releasing them, "time will tell", typically that's something candidates do "sometimes around April." That was a commitment. Mitt's going to have to release his tax records and they will show he paid a much lower rate than the average worker because most of his income is capital gains. That's going to be fun.
Newt not seeing the insult in suggesting janitorial work for minority children was good too. Earning money is a very good thing if you're poor.
Romney on the Taliban was weak. Obama will chew him up.
Santorum knows nothing about Syria. He doesn't even realize that Israel supports Assad.
Perry thinks Turkey is now ruled by "Islamic terrorist"? OMG.
Santorum is right on Habeas Corpus and if I follow the comments, the Obama administration is wrong. However, that scenario seems so absurd that I'm going to have to look it up and see what the issue is because I'm sure I've missed something. Still, it seemed like Santorum was right.
Perry has no jobs program and his Constitutional amendment to provide for a part time Congress is absurd.
Newt continues to claim credit for Clinton's economic record. That's not going to work against Obama.
Romney danced a dance around the Second Amendment question. I don't know his history on this but he did weave an elegant tapestry. I am still not quite sure what his position is.
Newt and Mitt on the Super PACs was great! Two innocents proclaiming how they would never ever do anything like putting those bad old attack ads on. My, my, if only they could figure out a way to communicate with the Super PACs to tell them to pull the ads but of course they cannot because coordination with the completely independent PACs is against Federal law.
A good debate was had by all.
highlights on the TV tonight. The crowd sounded like an especially blood thirsty bunch didn’t they? The candidates handed them the ‘red meat’ as fast as they could chew it up.
Pretty sad that this is the best the Republicans can offer, isn't it?
Against a billion dollar war chest, the Presidential pulpit and use of government funds to run a re-election campaign, the Republicans have no chance against Mr. Obama.
Now the Congressional elections, well we will see, it's not looking too good for the Democrats in 2012. Capturing the State Houses in 2010 is redrawing the battle lines. The Tea's are less reported in the media, but they are out there working hard. I think the media hopes that if they simply ignore the Tea's they will go away, I think they are wrong.
2012 will be a pivotal year.
is the ‘cream of the crop’ of the party but I do agree with you, they all stink.
Now that you mention it, the Teaparty isn’t mentioned very much on this site lately. Saving it up for the big show, I guess. When the primaries are over, I’m sure they will be winging there way out of their caves with a mighty shriek.
I don't think they will do that, you see they are now quietly sucking the life out of the corrupt incumbents. It will be all about the Congressional elections in 2012. The Presidential election is just a side show.
Mr. Obama will win that one but I think he has lost his opportunity to create that hope and change thing. Remember? Now it's those bad rich guys that are the problem, or is it simply a flawed philosophy?
the “cream of the crop’ of GOP candidates or that the Teaparty is going to be more active when the primary is over?
Are you talking about the Teaparty Congressmen ‘sucking the life’ out of corrupt incumbents? They are certainly creating a reputation for themselves. The institution has never looked worst since they got to Washington. I’m thinking they are sucking too hard and may bite themselves out of office once they get all those ‘Post Offices’ named.
I’m pretty sure, as a class, millionaires are not evil. I can’t ever remember saying such a thing, now did I?
was another episode of “Beat the Press!” The GOP crowd cheers for that gag every time. Newt Getrich didn’t always think those questions were out of line, now did he?
