If you have a chance visit some of the classrooms here in FC. There are teachers and teams of teachers who are using 'technology' and creative scheduling to make sure that students are getting the best they, the teacher, has to offer - as well as the much needed time for students to learn how to work together with those of different learning styles and abilities. There are appropriate large classroom settings; small classroom settings; and one on one settings for instruction. All require knowledgeable, well-trained teachers; districts;/BOE members willing to finance the best; supportive communities.

FALCONS; I look forward to cheering them on next year!! Being from LA - it's been a long time coming to cheer for a 'home' team. Thanks for an interesting discussion!

DM and Dunta Robinson!

DM, I will have you know that I have more than a couple little Ninjas attending the fine schools here in the FC! I and Mrs. Ninja moved here specifically for the schools our little black-clad ones attend! BTW, I was just in one of their classrooms this AM! I still think there is too much teacher talking and not enough student thinking going on. Does it really take a whole year to learn addition/subtraction and another year or two to learn multiplication/division? Spock did it in 30 mins on Vulcan!

Also, would you let your daughter name your grandson Dunta, doing injustice to the Dante of Inferno fame?

You can still root for the 49ers! I would not hold that against you!

I think that's what they call it on Vulcan. Wish we could do it here then the problem is solved but we live in 2012.
Addition and subtraction can be self learning for the 50% or so who can do it on their own with limited support. Just needs the blessings from the public and money to fight the teachers Union in states that have them.

Sorry if a comment I made got your panties in a wad. I thought we were in agreement. I was certainly not implying that ALL FC teachers are doing creative teaching - and if your kids teachers aren't - look into it! That's your job! None of what you expect can be done without teacher training BEFORE a teacher enters their own classroom. Until the 'intellectuals' in our university system realize that just as doctors need extensive training before they operate - so do effective teachers before they 'operate' on our kids!. I trust you didn't name any of your kids NINJA - or whatever - but if you did, that would be your business and represent your family and culture. Right? Dunta may be a cherished family name - like Kenta. Geez!! There are countries where Bob is considered a 'foreign/unacceptable' name. LOL!

Ninja Good idea

makes good sense from what I see. Teachers teaching via video can reach a larger audience and reduce redundancies. Like it!

Teachers should never be obsolete there will always be a group of students who learn more with human feel.

I don't think DM is total disagreement with your thought process

that DM IS wedded to the idea of filling the socialist wagon to the brim with retired public school teachers! Of course, self-directed video/computer based learning would work for only about half the public school student population at best, but this would free up resources for the bottom 50%! My real concern is the bottom 20% that are basically doomed from birth to remain at the lower end of the economic ladder!

My Kids Refuse to Eat Poptarts! What is wrong with them?! I ate Poptarts every morning for about two years straight when I was young!

Mine won't touch them either but I'm not complaining "more for me".
The bottom 20% is where social programs come into play. Not saying they are for those who have the IQ to make it on their own. I'm talking those who cannot live and fend for themselves.

Wow!! My friends would laugh at that misinterpretation! I'm all for keeping the young teachers who are full of enthusiasm, innovative ideas, and knowledge of the new technology in our classrooms and not lose them to corporate America and Wall Street!! Good teachers will expose our children to all ideologies with no fear of having them not follow the standards of democracy as found in the United States.

Sometimes I 'sense' that there are those who are afraid to appear to agree with anything I say. LOL As I've said before, I just share my opinion - not looking for agreement - just sharing another point of view. Enjoy the sharing of ideas. Isn't that what is considered a 'freedom' that Americans enjoy?

Oh, Well D-MoM

I don't know what got into me today! I was just spoiling for a spat in this rainy weather and thought I'd test you out to see how your combat skills are! You know I always support you when you whack Joke Awfi or his brethren for being ignoramuses! But, I still say Dante's mom is upset! Also, sorry I couldn't deliver you any supplies on the socialist retiree wagon today, as Bigfoot put in a big order ahead of you for beef jerky and purple Kool-aid:)!

BTW, do you really play chess?

Maybe better luck for the Falcons next year!

Hi Kev and Krew---back home to this cold and bleak countryside--

Dream on Mytmite. Mad Mike sends his love.

Not that he told me that, but I'm sure he does. How was your very long break? Mine was a working holiday which culminated in my debit card being cloned in South America. Try doing two days in Rio on $40. Not easy, but proven possible.

You missed a coffee of four (Hutch, Carbon, Athomegym, and I). Athome helped me and my boys bring in the New Year with some of the best lucky black eyed peas we'd ever had!

Currently I've just settled back into a hotel south of the border, 4 hours after we should have blasted off for home. Long complicated story, but basically I get an extra day of surfing, but miss lunch with my youngest. And a couple hundred folks are not too happy. C'est la vie of the traveling public. Sometimes it seems like a crap shoot.

Only sad news locally is the economy is slowly improving, which has kind of hurt the "Obama is destroying America" argument. Hopefully some terrible economic news will come along and cheer up the local conservative base :-) (you guys do know I'm kidding, right? Please hold the hate mail).

Next Sunday morning/afternoon is my next availability. Will keep ya posted..... but on a shorter post :-)

Lion and Mr. Obama

Mr. Obama will almost certainly win the next election but not because of the reasons you list. He will win because he has the most money and the Republicans are busy self-destructing with a weak slate of candidates.

The real question is and continues to be, what will happen in Congress? This is where it will make a difference. Will the change that occurred in 2010 continue in 2012.

My bet is it will continue. We'll see soon.

Certainly possible PTC O

A big spending campaign by Prezbo to "continue the work we have started" will certainly appeal to the slugs and layabouts and non-taxpayers and the wealth-envy crowd. Gee, you add all them up it comes to 70%. So he can easily buy his second term and as you say Congress is where its at.

Senate? Likely the useless and the hopeful mentioned above will just do a mindless vote for the one with a D after his or her name, so Republican gains here will be limited to those states where there are unemployed who want to work - might be as many as 10 or 12. The goal here has to be super majority that can override Presidential vetoes or else we are really goners.

House? Likewise on the lockstep D voters, but fortunately most of the country has congressional districts that are controlled by working people and the actual middle class. Huge gains here unless the Tea Party influence tosses out their heros of 2 years ago because they didn't really accomplish anything.

Result? More of the same for 4 more years except Prezbo will cheerfully veto any productive thing that the House and Senate come up with because he has no more elections - ever. Scary. And it really could happen.

RWM Scary?

What's scary is that you buy into a party that will do anything to get your vote. The two parties Dem and Rep. are so far in their left and right corners that you and I don't matter. You see Robert if a candidate can get your support by telling you what you want to here then they will never work for the people. They work for you and you only. (Piggy and the Brain) LOL
My ideas seem good to me but when shared with KevinK, Ninja, D35 dude, you or anyone else they are not as good as I thought. Why? it fits me and not them. Take some of those ideas and tie them with others then we have something. Maybe something we all can live with.

The majority of the Congress is a party of NO when dealing with the Prez. Some have signed pledges that will not allow the US to balance the budget or reduce the deficit. As others are sitting quietly taking money from lobbying groups arguing the opposite. We won't and cannot fix this mess separately. No party has the “one size fits all” fix.

No question about it, T-man. Both parties are horrible

I have said for years that the whacky religious right is just as dangerous and irrelevant (to me) as the whacky liberal left. Neither party can thrive when pandering to the extremists.

I do think the Republicans have the easier task in transforming their party because there are many sane Democrats who want smaller government and a balanced budget, but they don't want to belong to a party that wants to control your body (or at least your wife's body). So all the Republicans have to do is dump the bible thumpers - or at least stop pandering to them, which would get rid of Santorum and Huckabee and others.

The Dems could shed their extremists as well, but which ones? There are too many special interest groups on the left that you would have to pick and choose and the ones that remain would not be something sane Republicans or centrists would embrace.

Third parties are never going to win elections, so it needs to be one of the parties purifying itself before we make so progress.

They have you already. your quote;there are many sane Democrats who want smaller government and a balanced budge
Why do you think the majority of the Dems do not want a balanced budget? Who told you that?
Smaller gov't how? We want protection from extremist abroad (Military)We want a fair education system [Dept of Ed.] We want clean air to breath [EPA] We want we want we want but don't want to pay for it. Where would you cut Gov't to satisfy your needs?

Homework. We all need improve in that area. That includes me. The candidates that will leave GA and go to DC are not the ones we need. They are not willing to work with the other side. They have proven this. Give me a Repub who will work with the other side and they have my vote. Give me a Dem who will work with the other side and they have my vote.

Wanna do some big spending? Stock up on Black Oil Sunflower Seeds! At Lowes today, I paid 13.49 for a 17 lb bag: about 6 weeks ago, a 20 lb bag was twelve bucks! Anyway you look at it, that's a 25% per lb increase!! It's called "Reduce size of packaging; raise the price--nice!

True enough about bread and milk

A gallon of milk costs more than a gallon of gas - or diesel.
And a loaf of bread costs more than squeazing(----Censored and banned for obvious reasons-----------)

Feeding birds is a good thing. What do you feed them?
