Cherokee Indians Say They Can Kick Blacks out of Tribe
The nation’s second-largest tribe of Indians, the Cherokee, stated on Tuesday that it would not allow the US government to dictate over their decision to banish over 2,800 African-Americans from Cherokee citizenship.
Justice for 'freedmen'!
I'm not an expert by any means. But I thought that native Americans on a reservation weren't subject to "American Law". That is why they can have casino's on land that prohibits it by law on surrounding land. So why does a federal judge have jurisdiction in this case? I'm not saying that these 'freedmen' should or shouldn't be allowed citizenship just wondering. Maybe these people aren't on a reservation?
unity." It quotes radio host Tom Joyner as pleading with his 8 million black listeners to get in line behind the first black president. He is quoted as saying "Stick together, black people." The article goes on to say that Joiner wrote on his BlackAmericaWeb.com blog "Let's not even deal with the facts right now. Let's deal with just our blackness and pride and loyalty. We have the chance to re-elect the first African-American president, and that's what we ought to be doing. And I'm not afraid or ashamed to say that as black people, we should do it because he's a black man."
The article also quotes the Rev. Al Sharpton as recently saying to black critics of President Obama "I'm not telling you to to shut up, I'm telling you, don't make some of us have to speak up." (Whatever that means?)
Just wondering how others here on this site feel about this? Without going into what or what not Obama has accomplished, is it right to say you should back a candidate for re-election, regardless of what you feel he has accomplished in his first term because of the color of his skin? What would be the fall out if the candidate was white as was the person making the statement urging the white community to vote for someone regardless of how they felt and only because of the color of his/her skin?
I guess the fact that Obama won pretty handily shows that fortunately for this country white people aren't as ignorant and stupid about race as they used to be or how Tom Joyner presently is in 2011. If they took the Joyner attitude, well, no Obama presidency or anyone else that wasn't "white."
The fallout would be incredible if that came so blatantly from a Beck, Limbaugh, whoever. It won't really register since it's Joyner. It's considered OK for blacks to vote as a monolithic block and complete racism if whites do the same. Welcome to double standards and why racial progress always stalls due to not directly dealing with relic attitudes held by alarmingly ignorant people on either side.
When Americans went to the voting booth in the last presidential election, they voted for the Democrat - he happened to be Black. In 2012, we have a choice of keeping this president, or voting for the party that got us in this mess and has bloccked every attempt at correction. The voices that the Republican Party is offering sound anti-Muslim; have used the N word in this generation: and seems to vascilate on some issues. Blacks have not voted for only Black candidates in the past - but the majority of Blacks in this country are very proud of our first Black president, and the majority of Blacks will not vote for a Republican just because he is Black.
Joyner said nothing else mattered except for the fact that it's a black man so all black people should vote for him. He even further qualified that by saying it didn't matter what Obama had done as president or any "facts"; blacks should simply vote for him for the sole reason he's black.
...but prior to the last presidential election I spoke w/ two black men who were Republicans, one a 'life-long GOPer' but were voting for Obama due to the 'historic opportunity'. I would imagine there was quite a significant % that did so, also, but I believe the major reason for his victory was a referendum on the Bush administration and 7 years of war.
I agree .
I shared my opinion, just as TJ shared his. Do all white people share Beck's opinion? Do all black people share my opinion? Do all white people share your opinion?
What mytimite posted and asked was "what do people think about Joyner's comments?"
We already know that blacks will vote for any Dem by 90% or more, far more than any other group in the country(even labor unions go only about 60%), but what mytimite asked simply was what people thought of what Joyner said.
I shared what I thought of his comment. It's his opinion, not mine. If Mytmite wants to survey 'the people', fine - and she/he can share the findings here.
Blacks have not voted for only Black candidates in the past - but the majority of Blacks in this country are very proud of our first Black president, and the majority of Blacks will not vote for a Republican just because he is Black.
I cannot shape my answers to fit your need. I respect Mr. Joyner - but don't always agree with him/his opinions. Hey - we all don't think alike! His words, however, do not represent the American Black thought - as yours and others do not represent the American 'white' thought. Kevin is far more accommodating than I am regarding the 'race' discussion. I appreciate it when others point out to me where my thoughts do not agree with theirs - one learns from those discussions. . . .but I can't shape my answers to please or placate others. As I said before, I'm just going to share my opinion and experience here. Kevin shares many other common experiences with many of you. . . I share a few - but I enjoy learning from the information that I'm able to glean from the conversation. Sorry if you felt I didn't answer your/Mytmite's question in my first response.
I wonder how it works officially and legally when one is of mixed parentage--does
the child get to choose at some point in life or is race automatically determined by the race of the Father?
In the past, it depended on the state where one resided. Today, there is a place where one can check 'racially mixed' or mixed race or multiracial on an application. When race was supposed to be designated - in California, teachers were instructed to make a visual determination if the child was too young, or did not have 'race' designated on their cum record card. Also, parents could designate the race on an application. In the days when magnet schools were accepting children in order to fill or maintain an integrated quota, a parent was known to designate the 'race' that was needed. Only in America. Until we determine qualification for special services/positions based on education, income, skill, experience or other special needs other than race - we will still see 'racism' in America. Today in 2011 the disparity in income and education still exists - but not all whites and minorities fit into the statistical framework. Not all whites are better off than all blacks and vice versa. We can't ignore 'heritage'. But it is no longer necessary to 'pass' for white in order to succeed. Legally, racist practices do not exist - but we all know that not all individuals follow the law or the intent of the law. If race were determined by the 'father' - many of the families seen as ‘black’ in our country would be 'white' and vice versa. Our nationality is American. Those who have adopted children of another ‘race’ or nationality should not have to deal with this American phenomenon – and many loving parents handle this situation with great grace and love. Our president is visually 'black'. He is seen as black by both the 'white' and 'black' communities. He is seen as 'black' by the world. He has the most American family that I have ever seen. His sister is 'white' and Asian. You know his parental heritage. He represents all Americans. Whites did not vote for him because of his 'white' mother. In 2008, undoubtedly some blacks voted for him because not only was he intelligent and educated, he was to be our first black president. They voted for him with great pride. To not understand this is to not understand American history. We are progressing towards a non-racist society - but we're not there yet. Let's celebrate the progress that we're making - and hope that someday this will not be an issue.
not answer the original question. What are your thoughts on the original question that was posed?
Being as I'm your future head fund raiser and campaign manager, might I inject my almost worthless opinion? Tom Joyner, who I personally like for his benevolence, was way way way off the intellectual mark with his comments. I no more want people voting for Barack because he's black than I would want someone voting for Perry cause he's white or Bachmann because she is female. This is a terrible precedent to set and concept to espouse. My guess is he'll be walking his comments back as most radio personalities do when they are called out.
I cannot wait to meet you. I have a feeling sharing a table with you makes people walk away smarter; or at least smiling.
as long as people of all colors, sexes etc. refuse to come to the realization that it is wrong regardless of what has been done in the past. We go through life teaching our children that two wrongs do not make a right--and sadly, we as adults do not always follow that rule. As a nation we need to look for the best people regardless of their color, religion, marital status, etc. Too bad we cannot also look into their hearts and souls to see where their true interest lie--as we know--they often say one thing and feel another. Sometimes we see through them and sometimes we do not. That too is sad. I do not want this to turn into a debate on slavery and the post slavery years. I was disheartened to hear of Joyner's remarks--not as surprised at Sharpton's, and wondered what the feeling was within our blogging 'family'. Thanks for your response. I always enjoy them. Also, thanks for the kind words--now I am a little apprehensive to meet you guys, you may be greatly disappointed! Maybe I will just continue to stay on here and not make an appearance!!
Well OK not actually "helping" them...Just talking about it on the campaign trail...Well OK not just anyone talking about it on the campaign trail.. Just White Politicians talking about it on the campaign trail.
In today's episode of "That's Racist!", members of the segregationist group known as the Congressional Black Caucus (whites need not apply) say that the Tea Party is racist.
Obama's desire to make the capital of the United States represent all of our citizens is not a 'whites need not apply' policy. When one visits our capital, one notices that the majority of residents are 'black'. The majority of workers at our monuments are 'black'. Visitors to our capital should see all of our citizens represented. Whites, Hispanics, Asians .and all others, please apply!
Seems to ignore ethnic minorities. Hmmmmmm - that's a large group of voting citizens to 'ignore'. It appears that the Obama bus has gone into states where there are a limited number of ethnic voters . Maybe he wants to represent all citizens.
GOP using Herman Cain ‘to keep the racism very covert’
“People like Karl Rove like to keep the racism very covert and so Herman Cain provides this great opportunity so he can say, ‘Look: This is not a racist anti-immigrant, anti-female, anti-gay movement. Look: We have a black man.’ And look he’s polling well and he won a straw poll.”
Occupy Wall Street Goon: “We’ll Lop Off White Kids Heads”
This is the type of remark coming from the group that the Democrat party is cheering on.
MSNBC race relations commentator extraordinare Melissa Harris Perry explains it is racist when Michele Bachmann points out only 53% of Americans pay federal income tax and says we all need to pay.
Harris Perry: Pointing Out Only 53% Pay Federal Taxes Is "Racism"
Glad to see you're as back Joe. How was the hunting at the Perry N-word Head ranch? You bag some raccoons?
Perry, much like you, is a jaggoff
Definition of Jaggoff for kevin
Definition of Diva:
A bi**hy woman that must have her way exactly, or no way at all. often rude and belittles people, believes that everyone is beneath her and thinks that she is so much more loved than what she really is. selfish, spoiled, and overly dramatic.
Definition of Hack:
A political appointed flunky who either doesn't want to work or who is so stupid they can't work.
So years ago I started blogging using my name. A right wing wack job tried to "muddle" me by sending 30 pages of printed out blogs to my work. Anonymously as any coward would. It didn't work. I still enjoy the best job on Earth. I changed to an anonymous name, Diva, but then, not being afraid of my shadow like jokeawfi, I began using my name again.
Joe, you are a coward. You verbally attack from anonymity then beg for phone calls. But you won't leave your basement to meet any of us face to face. You won't drop your 'Diva.' That's why you are the only one still trying to keep that story alive. Sad man... or woman you are.
And now some how that is my fault? Typical bedwetting liberal, you are Diva. The definition is quite appropriate for you- You should have stuck with it.
Joe Kawfi is my real name - You got a problem with that?
As I have told you repeatedly, I have much, much more important things to do on my weekends then meet with a bunch of self-important narcissists that seem to think that anything that is written on these blogs really matters. Get a tissue, wipe your eyes, and get over it, you little jagoff.
You have told me before that you are far too important....to meet with those who only 'think' they're important. That's rich! By the way, we meet on weekdays and evenings too. And Mike King (a real name) buys the booze.
While Mike is never hesitant to pull out his wallet, there are times when others step up too! Next, while JK says that is his real name, I am unable to verify that on Switchboard, where I never have trouble finding real people. Then, regarding David Hackworth, how's 10 Silver Stars and 8 Purple Hearts for starters---plus a basketfull of other awards & decorations. And perhaps you don't remember, but he is the one who challenged Nav Adm Boorda about the "V" devices he wore on some of his awards. Boorda later committed suicide and some MSM folks went after Hackworth about his declared Ranger Tab and a Distinguished Svc Flying Cross. There was an official review of is records and his Ranger Tab was wrongfully awarded by a Brigade CDR after an operation (he did it for all unit members) but during the review, it was discovered that Hack actually had 10 Silver Stars vs the 9 he claimed!
He lied...AGAIN. He was no more born joe kawfi than Fred Garvin was born fred or Beaver was born beaver. We've seen weak swimmers like him come and go. Nothing new.
I just have to chime in here and make my statement: I know of no one who has attended a bloggers meeting who was not glad that they came. Good odds there, doncha' think? A unique and eclectic group, one that is well worth the admission price of identifying yourself by your blogging moniker.
In Joe's case it is eminently logical that he would have some reservations about being face to face with some of the bloggers, what with the way he expresses things and all. My suspicion is that he must be pretty big.
But, the more I think about it, Joe probably thinks you just paid him a huge compliment :-). Never mind.
While I understand the Throttle Benders definition of and use of "Hack--I offer you another choice:
David Hackworth, Col, US Army, Retired
That's what he was referred to by some and if you haven't read "About Face", HIS aUTOBIOGRAPHY, 4 YRS IN the writing while he was in self-imposed exile in Australia, you have missed the marvelous story of our most decorated military soldier. It may be 30 yrs old, but is a great read and worthy of your time
Thanks. Good day to you and the Mrs.
Definitely not something you hear at a Tea Party rally.
Black Man At Al Sharpton Rally: Obama’s a “House N***er”…
tennis shoes or do you have to be of the male persuasion?
We've had skyspy, Dawn, Jane Doe and Jevank, hell even BPR showed up once. Kevin's brought everybody in his family at one time or another.
Hey there. :-) I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of you. It's been a while. I haven't been blogging lately, it just came to a point where I let the things posted here affect my day ... and life has enough stress without leaving an open invitation. But I do check in here from time to time, to get a different opinion on matters and would love to make it to the next meeting if possible. Have a great day everyone. :-)
You've been missed. Hope all is well.
Hutch you didn't know because you weren't there, but MAINSTREAM stopped by at the last outing! She was a tad late but still made the effort and chatted with those who were there (Mike King, Kevin King and me).
That would have been an interesting blogging coffee if Mainstream showed up. I will try to make the next one. cheers to you all
Yea man--be good to see you again!
Sounds like the Master Scheduler needs to set a date/time soon. I'm in the USA for a bit and am up for it.
Hwy 85S Starbucks, or Hwy 54 by publics in west PTC or avenue at 54 and 74. Whatever works for Hutch and Cyclist :-)
I'd vote for the Avenues' Starbucks but it's not like the others are too far away either:)
Saturday works perfectly and either place is fine with me. Have a safe trip .... where ever you are. :-)
If you need to send me a message, my email is email@example.com
this Saturday.........Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. The boss says I can go so, I'm in. Is the Starbucks at the Avenues larger than the Starbucks joint at the PTC Publix?
I'll ponder over that after I get home--on the road tomorrow (or in the air), BZN,SLC,ATL.
Let me know if you need a ride.
What time works? Anytime after 7:30am for moi.
with me. Will we all wear a red rose for ID???
I would have liked to meet you, Mytmite -- oh, and Nuk too. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town this weekend.
Too bad, it looks like it will be a good one.
times. Hope this can work out. Think Roundie will show?-lol
I will not be able to make it before 10. oh well. obligations
probably take me that long to get out of my chair! Hope you drop by-----
Too bad you can't make it----as or me----I'm in!!
:-( :-( :-( :-(
U will be missed!
I promise to make the next one. I haven't seen Wedge and Dawn in over a year and AthomeGym wasn't at the last one. Let me know if Steve shows up.
Nor have I seen you as I walk the paths near my neighborhood, Jevank. I hope to see you soon. You aren't missing much by not seeing me. A beautiful Dawn on the other hand is missed :)
Do we have a definite time and location yet?
Saturday 29 October. Major Mike, I hope you show up. You consistently sound like a dude who knows what he believes (even though you are mostly wrong ;-) ), and we could use your help in wrestling the keys from Mike King to get our fiberglass joy ride on. I'll be there around 9 am with a middle schooler and a chihuahua if the weather permits.
...But getting the keys might just be easier than you think. Just returned from SC and Saturday's get-together looks to be super. See you there with keys in hand.
Just curious. How about it Ninja?
Just want to be sure---I'm old you know-----hope to see you all and all of you there.
I am going to show up just to give you a chance to give your favorite and most handsome blogger a big kiss and a hug! I will be the one with the VOTE HADDIX sign super-glued to my bare chest. You can't miss me!
My digestive system could not handle seeing your bare chest that early in the morning. You should really save all those hugs and kisses for your big bromance. Why am I not surprised that you would have a VOTE HADDIX sign in your possession, especially since he is not running for anything? Have you saved it all this time in your man cave--blowing kisses as you enter and exit? Did you have to take down your Ricky Martin poster to put it up? Oh, well, I can only imagine how fickle these bromances can be. Hair today, gone tomorrow---oh, wait, that's your chest, isn't it? Anyway, if you can tear yourself away from the mirror as you chant "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who loves Haddix most of all", I guess I can put up with you.
Another one of kevin's little girl coffee chats! I can't wait!
Joe, it's amazing what one can learn over coffee with girls. The gentler sex, for example, can teach one how to have a thoughtful conversation. See you there.
You won't see Joe until he grows a bigger set of nads then the girls have, and I believe we know what the girls are born with.
some guys, at least mentally and emotionally--and how do you know what us gals have? Been peeking again, have you. LOL.
to prevent my being banned:
Betty White: I don't know why people say "grow some testicles" when they want a guy to toughen up. Those things are weak and sensitive. If you want a guy to get tuff, tell him to grow a "V-word". Now those babies can take some punishment! (child birth I assume)
full life. I think she will be my write-in for President this year--she would make a better candidate and I bet she would not waffle on any issue.
As for her remark about the male 'pride and joy'; remember the little old lady, I think she was in her eighties, that some young jerk attacked in her home. He was trying to force her into a sexual act and she grabbed him by those jewels and led him out her front door--all the while he was begging her to let go---she held him (by those jewels) until the police came and got him. Bet he thought long and hard before attacking any little ole ladies after that. At a very early age I was taught by an uncle that if I were ever attacked in any way by someone of the opposite sex that that was the area I should aim for--either by kicking or grabbing and twisting. Thankfully, I have not had to do that so have just used the english language on some of these men who feel they are superior to almost everybody in every way. Sometimes I can imagine those words having the same effect as sudden immersion in ice cold water----
How would you know what a girls private's look like?
You bed-wetters really get offended when someone doesn't want to come to your little girl meetings, don't you little boy?
Wipe your tears away Hutch and get a life.
Not offended at all, but congratulations Joe, since Bacon left, you're now the toughest guy here to ever hide behind a keyboard. Granted, y'all were a toss up before, but now you have sole possession.
Jokeawfi. You forget that you told me you'd flown with me. You did the V1, V2 nonsense. I've only flown with one guy right wing wacky enough to be you, so I've narrowed you down to him. Why you have lied and said "Joe Kawfi" is your name; Why you lied when you said "Fred Garvin" was your name; why you bring up the fact that I've blogged under other names.... as you have, is beyond me. Joe, you don't have the V-word to even hold Hutch's sweat towel for him while he golfs. Why you keep the anonymously macho thing going is down right puzzling.
Hutch, as for Bacon. He has shared his name, face, phone number, and he has debated big mano a big mano. These two have very litlle in common outside of cringe-worthy comments. See you and the big daddy Caddy Saturday.
my mileage with the Bacon boy was different then yours. I put Joe and Bacon on the same list, the only thing different about them was the side of the aisle they argued from. If I'm not golfing I'll be there.
Joe will hold your balls for you. I like TaylorMades. Longer drives out of the tee box.
of you. Were surprised at some of those you mentioned were of 'the gentler sex'.. Would not have thought it---just goes to show you should not assume anything---have a good one.
Would love to put a face to the names that I have been responding to for almost seven years! Dawn, I've been looking for an artist to 'immortalize' my grands. Haven't found one who captures a child's image like you do. I' ll give you a call. I was hoping to drop by on Saturday, but won't be able to make it.
People I thought I could never ever get along with have now become my friends.... and I don't hold their Navy pasts against them :-D. (Hutch, is your ear tingling?)
Thanks for making this effort to get the 'bloggers' together! I have help with my mom during the week - but on the weekends, my husband and I care for her. She'll celebrate her 101 birthday in December - and we try to spend as much time with her as possible. If time allows, I'll try to make it. Thanks. I'm sure as Carbonite said, no one has regretted coming to a 'coffee'.
...just saw this! Congrats to your Mom - that is awesome! Hope she's doing well!
She is awesome - and doing just fine! Thanks! :-)
