This is one of those stories that most would say Nah just another Internet rumor etc... But unfortunately it is real and true.

It appears the Department of Justice has targeted a company for no other reason then that they are big donors to the Republican party.
In 2009 the DOJ raided Gibson and seized Millions of dollars of India wood imported for use in their Guitars. They sited a violation of the
"Lacey" act. The DOJ say that Gibson violated the U.S. Lacey Act by importing wood from India not finished by Indian workers.
But Gibson says the Lacey Act only applies if foreign law has been violated, and it hasn’t been in this case:

"The Federal Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. has suggested that the use of wood from India that is not finished by Indian workers is illegal, not because of U.S. law, but because it is the Justice Department’s interpretation of a law in India. (If the same wood from the same tree was finished by Indian workers, the material would be legal.) This action was taken without the support and consent of the government in India."

"“Gibson has obtained sworn statements and documents from the Madagascar government and these materials, which have been filed in federal court, show that the wood seized in 2009 was legally exported … and that no law has been violated,” the company says in a news release."

Gibson was recently raided again and imported wood was seized by Fish and Wildlife agents again without warrant. Who knew the Squirrel Police could be so combat ready. I guess Gibson didn't get the message from the 2009 raid.

There is two glaring problems here. One 2 years after the DOJ entered and seized Gibson's property they have neither filed for criminal and/or civil charges against Gibson but are still holding the wood and two and I think much, much worse C. F. Martin Gibson's largest competitor uses the exact same unfinished wood from India but yet the DOJ has left them alone.

Why? Well one possible answer is that C.F. Martin just happens to be a MAJOR DEMOCRAT contributor. Nah... that couldn't really be the answer.... could it?
