What the h... do we need with a "chic?"

They are all too old to be called chics anyway.

What might be helpful would be a disabled, female Eskimo "lady," who went to Harvard and Oxford.
(not on scholarships, but on family money!)

I think if that Arizona Governor would give it consideration to run, she could outdraw Governor Deal---especially from the minority races.
She might even allow localities to sell alcohol on Sundays and not get blamed for it!

Who is this fellow Uncle Cain, anyway? Is he a relative of that new black FOX contributor, Williams?

Jeff: Republican candidates

I find it difficult to think that the GOP is as dumb as all that!

Romney isn't "qualified" in foreign relations, is he? He inherited a zillion and ran a business for awhile and was Governor of Massachusetts where he proceeded to supervise health insurance for everyone. He is a Mormon and that will make a lot of southerners just not vote at all. The Mormons are totally strange to Baptists and fundamentalists.

There are conservatives out there who could win however, if they dropped the impossible wishes such as eliminating Social Security, destroying the universal health plan, and extending the Bush tax cuts for corporations and others. (not to mention wanting troops in a half dozen other countries immediately).

I think someone will appear for the GOP.

Many of those eligible conservatives however do not want anything to do with the current conservative bunch now in Washington, nor any of the radicals such as the TEAS (scores of parties).

If a few of the current conservatives in Washington were to reverse their impossible thinking and agree to back a new candidate with a moderate platform, they could have a chance.

JeffC: That sums it up well

You included a few more than I did a couple of weeks ago when I ran down the list, but I didn't want to insult anyone by mentioning complete losers like Rick Santorum.

Mitch Daniels might make some noise as the "alternative to Romney." That's the ground that Tim Pawlenty hopes to claim, but I'm not sold on Pawlenty's chances.

I don't think Ron Paul runs again but he'd be an interesting VP. He sits out because in 2016 I see his son Rand definitely running. I'm not so sure Rand will even wait a few more years, but he ought to. He might be competing against Marco Rubio then, who could be formidable.

Obama's birth certificate

Now that Obama has released his long form birth certificate, Trump may decide not to run.

Or, more likely, he shoots up in the Republican polls as the Party leader who successfully forced Obama to release the document.

LOL.

Donald Trump was asked last month as to when he would release his tax returns. He replied he would do so "just as soon as President Obama releases his long form birth certificate"!

No, he doesn't need to think before he speaks

because he's a genuine, real, sincere person who cares about the country. A few rough edges perhaps, but that's better than the current President reading what Bill Ayers wrote on his teleprompter.

I doubt Trump will actually run, but he will sure get some publicity before he withdraws. Be better if the other Republicans had his personality - or any personality. This is textbook how to attack an opponent and Obama took the bait and now he's in over his head and Trump will keep it up on some other issue and Obama will be playing defense from now on. Next topic is who actually wrote Obama's book.

Obama released his birth certificate years ago. A certified, embossed, legal document from the State of Hawaii accepted by every state and the federal government.

I hope Trump runs too.

You won’t be surprised mudcat

You won’t be surprised that that is not the way the Dems see it. Trump is a gadfly who will probably not run and would never get elected. His birther platform, which he doesn’t believe for a minute, is a sham to dupe the gullible base. He looks to those outside the TEA base to be some kind of nut and the Dems delight in making him out as the face of the Republican Party. Obama releasing his birth certificate boost Trump even more, elevates the clown aspect of the Party making it easier to ridicule the whole Party, and makes it even harder for the lesser known candidates to gain any press with all the attention turned on Trump.

The primaries are in seven months. The Republican candidates are way behind the curve already. Building up Trump (before he decides not to run) detracts from the real issues and gives the Dems another avenue to present the Republican Party as overrun by delusional, conspiracy theory driven loons for whom facts are not relevant.

Obama says we don’t have time for this “silliness”. But now every candidate is going to have to respond to the new birth certificate disclosure. Obama will sadly shake his head and will be portrayed in the press as the adult in the group grappling with real issues while the Republicans squabble about the even more irrelevant “who wrote the book” issue. From there to demanding release of those college transcripts.

He could have released the birth certificate anytime so why now? He knew he had it and he knew what it said. Obama is playing Trump and the Republicans like a violin.

Obama playing Trump like a violin - yep, and that's what's wrong

As you point out JeffC, Obama could have released this anytime he wanted to since it is obvious he had the thing, but instead he uses Trump's crusade as part of his campaign to be reelected - you know the one that started on inauguration day.

Playing Trump like a violin is not hard, but should the President of the United States lower himself to this? Our very own Nero should have some more important issues to tackle, but today he diddled Trump and then taped a segment for Oprah - in Chicago! Is that what we want our President to be doing?

I must point out that the last time we had a straight talking hardnose successful businessman on the national stage it was Ross Perot who took away enough Bush I voters to give us Clinton. As bad as that was, it pales in comparison to an Obama second term because if Obama has a clear lead going into the election his coattails will keep Republicans out of a majority in the Senate and that would be real serious. Obamacare would survive, although the country would not.

Trump sincere?

Trump, and possibly Al Sharpton running for President in the Alabama primaries, along with Haley Barbour considering running for Washington, DC Mayor, is as stupid as you saying President Obama took Trump's bait!

Trump wouldn't know what bait was if he left the NY crooks he deals with! He can't even decide upon a wife as does Newt!

Dishonesty is rampant now in the republican party. They refuse to discuss what to cut for the budget but want Obama to determine that, hoping he will pick something that will get him defeated! If they do propose anything they are careful not to mention the details!

Afraid conservative selfishness has a finally destroyed a good old GOP and disintegrated into such as TEAS by the score, Limbaughs, Hannitys, and 2-4 dumb bimboes.

Roundabout, Jeff, and ChrisP: How rich! Politics is fun again!

Donald Trump has fitted himself with long, bowed upwards shoes, a round ball for a nose, and a rainbow-colored reverse Mohawk wig. And he didn't have to. He could have stuck to his economic accomplishments..... He could have focused on tax reform.... but NNNOOOoooooooo. He had to join Orly Tates. ORLY TATES of all people. The woman who was fined for bringing frivolous law suits with her Birther nonsense.

Predicting this day, Trump is trying to switch to an "Affirmitive Action" attack. Now his mantra seems to be that President Obama either didn't really go to Harvard or his grades should have disqualified him somehow.

Yeah. This will be a winner. I wonder if his half children and ex wives can even look at him without laughing. This is true political theater that I imagine the president absolutely can't get enough of.

The difference mudcat

The difference is that when Bush was subject to the lunatic fringe's accusations from the Truthers, the Democrats denounced them. When Obama is attacked by the lunatic fringe, they are embraced by the Republican leadership. In fact, they are the Republican leadership.

Let's not forget that Obama released his legal, embossed, certified, official birth certificate three years ago and it was vouched for by Hawaii state officials.

The Dems denounced the Truthers? Like Dan Rather?

I must have missed that one. CBS Anchortruther gets caught red-handed lying about forged documents that were false (but might have been true) and loses lucrative job. And the Dems denounced that? Naw.

The Dems were the ones running around saying even though the documents were forged, what they said was true. Couldn't prove it, but they want it to be true, so it is.

I do believe it was right about then that people stopped watching the network news shows in droves.

I also see lots of sensible people Republicans and Democrats and others denouncing this birth certificate thing as a huge non-issue. Which it is.

Dan Rather???

Who cares about Dan Rather? Name one elected Democratic official that sided with the Truthers. There are none.

The reason this is not a non-issue is that so many Republican officials embraced it and the Republican Party's television network constantly played it up as did the Republican Party's network of talk radio commentators. 45% of Republicans believe Obama is not a US citizen in spite of having zero evidence supporting that view and overwhelming evidence to the contrary. This is mainstream Republicanism and the leaders wouldn't denounce it because they were afraid of antagonizing their base.

Like Jonathan Swift said, "you cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into."

Rush didn’t give any credence to the “birther” issue except to ask why Obamarx wouldn’t just put it to bed. Then he said, he wanted to see President Obamas school records and grades. He said he "heard" where he didn't do so well and he wondered how he got into Harvard and headed the "Law review!"

JeffC - Why

Why is everyone worried about the next Presidential election?

Mr. Obama will win hands down, there is no Republican candidate that can beat him. There is no Republican that wants to be President that will run against him. He has money on his side this cycle.

Now, the Senate there something to talk about. Who will control the Senate? If the Republicans end up with the kind of gains they had in the last election in both the House and Senate and that veto control of the Congress, it won't matter if Mr. Obama is President.

What do you think Jeff about this possibility? I suppose you will say no but I still wonder.

Cain is a really serious candidate and should resonate with many voters as an honest American, loaded with integrity, personal experiences, and leadership talent--never mind not being elected previously to some office. A Jon Huntsman or Tim Pawlenty and Cain ticket would offer voters great choices. Regretably, don't think Herman has the voter identity or dollar numbers to get the Repub nomination.

I suppose that I just can't keep up with all the Republicans that want to run against Mr. Obama, not that I care to keep up with them. All of them will lose against Mr. Obama's massive billion dollar special interest money campaign.

In a way it doesn't matter who I like or don't like. The Republicans will pick their candidate. It's usually the next guy in line and I suppose that it's Romney?

You see for a person like me I am totally left out of the polticial process. Supporting some "fringe" candidate is a lost cause because they aren't the next in line.

So, I stand on my political philosophy. In that regard, and to your relief I suppose, there is no one for me.

Huntsman commits political suicide

Jon Huntsman committed political suicide last evening at a Republican townhall event.

He said that building a fence between Mexico and the United States was a bad idea:

"I hate the thought of a fence on the border. I mean, for me, as an American, the thought of a fence, it to some extent repulses me, because it's not consistent with our overall -- the image that we projected from the very beginning to the rest of the world."

I'm starting to like this guy.

No fence and Ryan's budget is no go!

It may not matter who wins the next election!

This man might be honest.

You failed to mention that he ended with "But the situation is such that I don't think we have any choice." Pretty clear he favors SOME FORM of SECURING our border to prevent illegal immigration.
