Why is this? Japan news says looting would dishonor the nation, its family and ancestors. Japan has little immigration of other cultures and is able to maintain centuries of its culture and beliefs, unlike the U.S. Japanese newsmen say in disasters like Katrina, they saw people looting. In Japan people work together helping each other. No wonder other nations have no respect for America.

Here are some facts

Blacks make up only 12.2% of the US general population, yet constitute roughly 47% of the US prison population. Why are blacks so prone to committing crime?About one in 33 black men was in prison in 2006, compared with one in 205 white men and one in 79 Hispanic men. Eleven percent of all black males between the ages of 20 and 34 are in prison or jail...From 1976 to 2005, blacks committed over 52 percent of all murders in America. In 2006, the black arrest rate for most crimes was two to nearly three times blacks’ representation in the population. Blacks constituted 39.3 percent of all violent-crime arrests, including 56.3 percent of all robbery and 34.5 percent of all aggravated-assault arrests, and 29.4 percent of all property-crime arrests.

...The evidence is clear: black prison rates result from crime, not racism. America’s comparatively high rates of incarceration are nothing to celebrate, of course, but the alternative is far worse. The dramatic drop in crime in the 1990s, to which stricter sentencing policies unquestionably contributed, has freed thousands of law-abiding inner-city residents from the bondage of fear. __CityJournal
So again, why do blacks commit so much crime? Clearly, poverty is not the main reason. Blacks make up 24% of the poor US population but commit 40% of violent crime.

Great cut-n-paste, Batch!

I noticed you got your info from HERE

I'm genuinely curious, though, why you didn't also include the author's other two conclusions regarding the high incarceration level of black?

1. Because blacks are genetically prone to becoming criminals
2. Because blacks are scientifically proven to be less intelligent than whites, and the less intelligent you are, the more likely you'll end up in prison.

Great tinfoil-hat site, nonetheless.

You guys really come up with some honkin' great websites.

So Bacon, you seem to say his info is way off..

How about give us the real info. I'm curious to see it. I take it you've done some research on the subject.

Spyglass- these data are

Generally good data, Bacon's objections are with Batch not giving credit to the source. The actual source can be found in the Department of Justice statistics and I will let Bacon look those up for us, since he seems to question them.

The problem with these data omits the fact that most of the crime is committed black on black. Batch seems to either ignore this or doesn't care, he would like to be an alarmist for insecure whites.

A mobster culture in lower and middle class black families and the acceptance of the degradation of women of color contribute to the frequency and number of charges brought against blacks. The fundamental problem with crime in America is that the government has made it far too easy to "cop a plea" thus eliminating trial by jury in most cases brought. When a defendant, usually without education, is told they have a choice between 2 years on a plea bargain or 25 years if you go to trial, they usually choose the former.

Spyglass, my friend, I'm not like Observerofu....I don't claim to have all the answers (and I won't lie and pretend I do when I don't).

I was simply pointing out that the site that Batch got his cherry-picked info is a very racist site (current front page article: Black males are prone to "hormonal excess", that's why they go on gang-rapin' sprees from time to time, especially against white wimmen).

If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that the huge discrepancy in incarceration would be most likely largely explained by drug laws, and how a black male is much more likely than a white male to get prison time.

Japan, a secular society

Their culture may explain why they aren't looting and instead are taking care of the weaker, the sick and the elderly with great care:

"Proud of their secular society, most Japanese aren't religious in the way Americans are: They tend not to identify with a single tradition nor study religious texts...Indeed, where Christianity, Judaism or Islam are often preoccupied with causes of disaster - the questions of why God would allow an earthquake, for example - Eastern traditions like Buddhism and Shinto focus on behavior in reaction to tragedy.

“It’s very important in Japanese life to react in a positive way, to be persistent and to clean up in the face of adversity, and their religions would emphasize that,” says University College Cork’s Bocking. “They’ll say we have to develop a powerful, even joyful attitude in the face of adversity.”

Great article on how Japan handles disaster vs. how the USA handles disasters

Japan hasn't build its entire society on the principle of every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost. Their idea of disaster preparedness is not hoarding enough bullets to shoot their neighbors who run out of food. When America has a natural disaster, the private sector immediately focuses on profiteering and jacking up prices. In Japan the prices are lowered and in some cases basic necessities are even given away gratis. Japanese are more willing to look out for and help one another because unlike the U.S., their social dynamics focus on group harmony (critics say "conformity") rather than constant reminders that You are responsible for yourself and no one else. If your neighbor needs help, the American response is to lecture him about failing to better prepare himself for the crisis.

Of course, when the tsunami hit, the Japanese government did everything in its power to help out. Contrast that to the Crawford Coward's response to Hurricane Katrina: It's only black people, I'm gonna go have cake with John McCain and pose for a gee-tar photo op...

False Equivalency yet again

Japan tsunami deaths: over 10,000 (estimated)
Hurricane Katrina deaths: approximately 1,300
BP Oil Spill deaths: 11, all of them oil platform workers

Please, do us all a favor....take your false equivalency, shine it up real good, turn it sideways, and stick it someplace that the sun doesn't shine.

What would Jesus do?

Many 'good' Christians fail to consider this question. Most Christians do treat their neighbor as they would want their neighbor to treat them. Japan's citizens are to be admired.

The Melting Pot Theory is a Failure

Most Americans know all the reasons why. The solution is coming whether some people like it or not. The US is going to break up into cultural geographical factions as soon as the government collapses. Then we’ll have another civil war except this time it will encompass the whole nation not just the south. People can only take so much government control. The nation is already split nearly half & half at the ballot box – liberal ideas vs. conservative. We are at a stalemate on how to run the country. The key to the collapse is our reckless, destructive monetary system.

Melting Pot?

. .and then you say:

Quote:

The key to the collapse is our reckless, destructive monetary system.

IMO - the key to the possible collapse is the inability of SOME citizens to accept the fact that not all agree with their ideology. We're in a mess because we allowed those who professed 'fiscal conservative policy' not to follow a fiscal conservative path. . .and now we are not listening to one another in order to find a solution to this problem without destroying our country. Our enemies are rejoicing. We are on the precipice of destroying ourselves. There is no one to blame but us. Also, we are not independent - but dependent on a healthy world economy. We cannot afford to become isolationists. Your perceptions of 'cultural geographical factions' sounds like the old 'civil war' argument. Certainly you realize that the 'solid south' appears to be built on the refusal to accept the 'melting pot' theory. Call it 'classism/racism/elitism' - that will be the downfall of this country - not just our inability to adjust to the necessity of sacrificing in order to put our economy back in order.

Main Stream, let's talk about the ultimate secular society

One that was like you, atheistic and proud. I am referring to your ideological brethren in the 1930's Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. They were totally devoted to the state, closed or demolished thousands of churches, and indoctrined all to value the group rather than the individual. Of course, they had their dissenters and those that hurt social harmony. Those pesky Kulaks. How many died for the glory of a socialistic utopia?

Wedge - secular societies

In Stalin's Russia, there was no "freedom of religion (or none)" and instead was a totalitarian government where he forced people to into an atheistic belief system. His atheistic utopia was doomed to fail because, we all know, people should never be forced to believe, or not believe, in any ideology. They will revolt.

Here's a great article you should read on "forced secularization" and why this failed in Russia and why it would fail in any society:

Parts Shortage Hamstrings GM Plant

From the WSJ:

Fallout from crisis in Japan has reached the U.S. auto industry, with General Motors Co. on Thursday becoming the first domestic auto maker to shut down a factory because of troubles there.

Next week, GM plans to shut down a Shreveport, La., plant where it builds small pickup trucks because of a parts shortage caused by last week's earthquake and ensuing tsunami, the company said.

Japan's auto makers, including Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co., already have halted production in Japan.

But in the U.S., auto makers have played down the effect that the hit to Japan's industrial output will have on the U.S. and global industry.

Japan's factories mainly supply the Japanese market. However, they are also a source of engines and parts for assembly plants overseas as well as some vehicles that are made only in Japan, including the popular Toyota Prius. GM, for instance, gets transmissions for its battery-powered Chevrolet Volt from a Japanese supplier. Japan also is a supplier of high-powered batteries that go into some of the hybrid vehicles produced in the U.S. In addition, the country is a critical supplier of electric components used by virtually all auto makers...........

It's a world economy.

Japanese Earthquake Looters -- MIA

Japanese Earthquake Looters -- MIA

Two low-income areas outside of Boston -- South Boston and Roxbury -- were featured several years ago in U.S. News & World Report. They had similar socio-economic profiles: high levels of unemployment; the same percentage of children born to single-parent households; and the same percentage of people living in public housing. But the violent crime rate in Roxbury, predominately black, was four times higher than that of South Boston, predominately white.

The "elephant in the room"

What no one wants to talk about is immorality and acting on animal instincts.

Some are better at resisting them than others. Probably a result of generations of survival in different levels of civilization.

Japan - an educated populace

Compare the educational offerings in South Boston and Roxbury. One of the reasons for making it illegal for teaching 'slaves' to read was the reality that it's not the color of a mans skin that makes him rely on others - but the lack of education. What excuse does the well-informed Kawfi give for riots at soccer games in areas where there are no 'blacks'? Whatever. We will be considered a 'third world country' in the future not because of the color of the skin of our citizens, but the lack of meaningful education that will insure that we can maintain our leadership in a world where students are being educated 6 days a week/6 hours a day!!

DM, I would say Education as well, but also

there is something else. It would be culture. In addition to being an educated people, the Japanese are also inculcated with a cultural identity and a sense of honor. This would preclude any action that would bring dishonor upon themselves or their family. We are sadly lacking that kind of identity in any American cultures. We honor the salacious and we honor the base. Black, White, and Hispanic culture needs to combined into an American culture that would hopefully have a sense of honor, of shame avoidance, of perserverence, of grit.

DM and Wedge - Japan

I should stick to my occasional column and leave the blogs to you experts, Birdman was right at least about that, but I want to add something to your discussion. The news from Japan has been peppered with amazement over how Japanese citizens cooperate and deal with crisis calmly, no pushing or shoving or panic - yet. Wedge is right that it is cultural, but the real cultural difference is we emphasize the individual while Japanese and some other Asian cultures feel a first responsibility to the family and collective, subordinating individual needs, desires, problems. My read is their calm in the eye of an incredible storm is strength from being part of the whole and keeping their misery to themselves as much as they can, as they are taught to do. That is probably dissipating slowly with the young and western influence, but on that I am guessing. That's my take, others may be more knowledgeable.

United we stand and divided we fall.
Reading 20 comments from this one thread and 3 or more single out a group of folks by the color of their skin. That is why we Americans just don't get it. Japan is one country one people. They do have other cultures there to. America is separated by color of skin brought on by a dangerous thought process. The black crime rate is our crime rate. To separate is sure destruction of this country. What do you think all Black's are going back to Africa? Black's are here, whites are here, Indians are here and we should be one. WOW if we only can get it, a combination of cultures working together to form a stronger Union. Except we are infiltrated by those who separate us.

Our enemies are hoping that we stay 'separate '. Americans come in all colors ! We are united by our history - some folks think it's wise to leave the contributions of citizens of a different hue out of the history books. I so admire the Japanese culture. A united American culture is also one to be proud of!
