Presented "Let's Come Together" concert featuring their outstanding orchestra and chorus in a Gospel fest. What a night! Not an empty seat in the house! The auditorium was filled with such a feeling of unity - that one wonders why people even bother with 'hateful' statements. Progress has always been stifled by 'hate'. What a waste of time. Israel - there is hope for a peaceful existence. United States - there is hope for a unified country. Fayette County - there is hope for continued success. As long as organizations in our community reach out to all citizens and establish common goals, there is hope.

DM: Hope?

Yes, while IN CHURCH all is well.

The rest of the time lets see if someone else will do it!

What is "success" anyway? Haven't found most people's definition of it in 10,000 years!

"organizations reach out," what organizations and reach out to who? How do they reach out? With money or rent assistance and stamps maybe?

Capitalism is controlled by politics otherwise it would go out of control.
As long as we have politics, no "reaching out," will occur.

Anyway, church must be kept out of government. That is where the Great Crusades came from. Also, where our own fringe political parties come from in general.

Many churches, service organizations, and yes, political organizations have planned and implemented activities to bring different elements in a community together. The schools in Fayette County, IMO, have done and continue to do a fine job in this area.
Scouting and sports also contribute to bringing diverse elements of a community together

Success : The completion of a goal. I have witnessed success based on goals that most felt were impossible. Gandhi and MLK worked on achieving goals through non-violence. Impossible most said. Those who thrive on the biusiness of war and/or violence have the goal of stopping the solution of problems through non-violence. Violence uses many weapons, including words.

Many say it is insanity for one to continue to do the same thing and expect a different result. I have witnessed that calm reasoned discussion, coupled with understanding, empathy - and yes compassion can achieve a 'goal'- success. Hateful retorts have not brought me 'success'. Hate expressed does not change minds. Understanding may not change ones mind -but it helps to alleviate hate. . . .and possibly arriving at an agreed upon goal.

There is an organized group in this country that is determined to divide us as Americans.
Elements of division are race, gender, class, education, region, political ideologies, place of birth. Let's not contribute to their success.

I'm sorry but you didn't answer my questions with anything "specific."

Such phrase as the following have no meaning:

bring elements of a community together

schools do a fine job in this area

success is the completion of a goal

understanding empathy and compassion can complete a goal

There is an organized group in this country determined to divide us

division caused by race, class, education, region, politics, place of birth

I just don't know where you are going with such statements. If you spend all of your time talking and reasoning and empathizing, bringing together,
etc., when the goals are already there, just not being met due to lack of personal effort, then we will simply level everyone off at the same sorry place!!

due to lack of personal effort

The 'change' in our country throughout our history came about due to the personal effort of a few influencing the many.

Specifics:
Local individuals and organizations planning and implementing activities that bring diverse groups together. (Something that
is already done in Fayette County with success.

The majority of the public schools that I have visited have programs and activities where students and their families with similar interests can support - regardless of their 'differences'. The 'understanding' doesn't happen by osmosis - but through interaction.

"Success is the completion of a goal". Sorry, I don't understand why you don't understand this.

It has been my lifelong experience that when there is fear and/or disagreement - it has been because of a lack of understanding, empathy, and/or compassion of one or both parties.

The strength of the United States has been it's unity of purpose and it's constant evolving inclusiveness.
Our enemies throughout history have tried to divide us by working on the areas that would keep us from unity. Americans as a group and as individuals have taken action to make the words of our Constitution a reality. . . And to unify us through non-violent processes.

You still don't understand.
Even in your "specifics" above there is not one "specific" example!

As far as "lack of understanding" being a reason for fear and disagreement,
there is no misunderstanding involved when a whole element or maybe two or three elements refuse to become educated, refuse to get married, have children for the government to raise, get a gun and rob whomever, at their jobs--work sporadically or lazily, carry a chip on their shoulder for things of 100 years ago, etc.

Just so you won't think I'm talking about any one race, the whites are the majority in these problems, simply because they represent 60-70% of the population. However some of the other groups represent a far higher percentage of the problems than they represent in numbers total.

Why is that?

Your search for specificity is interesting. I just don't believe you don't have your own answer to this question: Why is that?

My answer. The group of citizens that you refer to have some commonality. Lack of education, lack of opportunity, lack of parental guidance , lack of moral guidance. I agree that the majority are the majority population (race). The higher percentage is minority. One of the minorities represented did not receive 'equal' opportunity in this country since some states operated on an apartheid system until the '60's. There was/is a welfare system in place that made/make it more profitable for a man to not marry the mother of his children or not live with his family because she could receive more in assistance than he could provide for with his salary. Citizens in this situation, regardless of race don't always refuse to become educated - but are inadequately educated. (regardless of race).

What has the majority population done to correct these problems in their community? How have you stopped the majority community from lazy behavior, lack of personal responsibility, etc.? Please share - if you have found successful strategies to alleviate this problem (lower the percentage) in the majority community. Thanks.

Are you serious? I remember driving through Fayette County 30 years ago with trepidation because of the reputation of a certain organization that operated here. In the 6 years that I've lived here - I'm aware of a few people who don't exactly welcome my presence. No chip about slavery and past legal segregation - but the reality of the remnants of racism.

Unity

Why is it so important to discuss what separates Americans rather than what unites us? I shared a wonderful uniting experience - which was enjoyed by many. We need to be united against an enemy that seeks to divide.

Palin Holds High Ground Over Harsh and Unfair Critics

An interesting article by Ed Koch.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2011/01/18/palin_defeated_unfa...

"I repeat my earlier comment that she "scares the hell out of me." Nevertheless, she is entitled to fair and respectful treatment. The fools in politics today in both parties are those who think she is dumb. I've never met her, but I've always thought that she is highly intelligent but not knowledgeable in many areas and politically uninformed. I don't believe she will run for president in 2012 or that she would be elected if she did. But I do believe she is equal in ability to many of those in the Republican Party seeking that office."

"While I disagree with her and I am prepared to oppose her politically, in the spirit of longed-for civility I say, Ms. Palin you are in a certain sense an example of the American dream: You have the courage to stand up and present your vision of America to its people. Your strength and lack of fear make America stronger and are examples to be emulated by girls and boys, men and women who are themselves afraid to speak up. You provide the example that they need for self-assurance."
