It has nothing to do with fear or "islamaphobia"
Assuming that the Florida pastor complies with applicable fire codes, he has a perfect legal right to burn Korans that are his private property. That he has a right to do it, however, does not mean it is the right thing to do. In my view, he should call off the event for the same reason that the mosque developers should choose a site that is a respectful distance from Ground Zero: because the plan is obnoxious and (figuratively as well as literally) inflammatory.

It was a field trip to a Mosque...duh.
Why all the fuss? It was a voluntary field trip to a Mosque. If the parent had any concerns then she shouldn't have allowed her kid to participate in the first place, especially when the permission slip informed the parents about the observation of a Muslim "prayer service." Duh. Personally, I wouldn't let my own kids attend an event, or a field trip, that went against our personal beliefs, UNLESS, we (as parents) were escorting our kids ourselves.

By all means don't let them inside a Catholic Church if you are a Christian Protestant family!
Nor, let your son attend Chapel in the military done by a Jewish Chaplain, by all means!

Expose kids to all religions...
Quite the contrary, CHR. I think its a great idea to expose kids to other belief systems, that's why we've taken them to visit a Jewish synagogue and a Hindu temple recently. They've also been exposed to fundamentalist Christianity by attending their grandmothers' church, in rural Georgia, where they were wrapped in "paper chains" and told to "break free from the devil."
We relish the idea of exposing our kids to all religions and allowing them to make up their own minds. Grandma scared the crap out of them with her field trip to her church, that is why our kids continue to be atheist/agnostic! They see religion for the farce that it is.

Main, I too think it is a great idea to expose children to other
religions. I have books on many religions in my home and they were always available for my children to read if they so desired. My mother did the same and as a child I went to the Catholic church, Methodist church, Church of God, and others. When I was a teen ager, the family directly behind us was Jewish; my younger sister became friends with their daughter of the same age and ended up going to Saturday School (schul? shul?) with her. She enjoyed it very much--I am not sure how much she learned about the religion-I do know she was not influenced to change religions! You can never learn too much about another person or their beliefs.

Field Trip to the mosque.

A Massachusetts school district has apologized to parents after a group of schoolchildren participated in midday Muslim prayers during a field trip to a Boston-area mosque.
“I extend my sincere apologies for the error that occurred and regret the offense it may have caused,” Superintendent Bella Wong wrote in a statement provided to FOX News Radio. “In the future, teachers will provide more clear guidance to students to better define what is allowed to fulfill the purpose of observation.”
Attorney Rob Meltzer represents the parent, who asked not to be identified. He’s launched an investigation into the incident and says he may consider filing a lawsuit or complaint against the school district.

The issue here is not rather Americans should or should not be "Islamaphobic". The issue is, however, rather Islam in and of itself extremist. The problem is illustrated here with the example of the Quran burning. We saw supposed "moderate" Muslims in the streets yelling Death to America. The problem here is we America have valid reasons for "mistrusting" Islam. A Majority of Christians would not get bent out of shape for the same acts. But Christians are characterized as extreme, intolerant boobs with no intelligence. But yet the very ones that scream intolerance are the ones that want to remove every symbol of Christianity and shut them up.
Where Islam is touted to be "peaceful"and moderate it is far from it.
"Muhammad and his successors initiated offensive wars against peaceful countries in order to impose Islam by force as well as to seize the abundance of these lands. Their objective was to capture women and children and to put an end to the poverty and hunger from which Arab Muslims suffered. So, Islam was imposed upon Syria, Jordan, Palestine (Jerusalem), Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Iran, all of North Africa, some parts of India and China, and later Spain."
"One of Muhammad’s popular claims is that God commanded him to fight people until they become Muslims and carry out the ordinances of Islam. All Muslim scholars without exception agree on this. Muhammad said:
"I have been ordered by God to fight with people till they bear testimony to the fact that there is no God but Allah and that Mohammed is his messenger, and that they establish prayer and pay Zakat (money). If they do it, their blood and their property are safe from me" (see Bukhari Vol. I, p. 13).
Scholars understood this claim to mean the waging of offensive wars against unbelievers in order to force them to embrace Islam as individuals or communities. This is exactly what Muhammad himself did in carrying out God’s commandment to him."

You are incorrect about Bible burning in piles in public---our Christian radicals would go nuts!
Yes Muslim leaders of the past have been critical and have killed Christians, but not nearly as many as we have Muslims----maybe 300,000 in Iraq alone not to mention the Christian Crusades. Yelling "death" is as bad as guided missiles I suppose.
Are you trying to say that we don't go around the world as Christians trying to convert people to Christianity and tell them they will go to hell if they don't? We do, wholesale.
Are you sure that there are other God's other than God? I thought the words God and Allah had about the same meaning....the Creator.

Is respected until you paint all with a broad brush. 'Christians’ killed my relatives in the '60's because they were 'black'. Thank heavens for spiritual leaders that taught us not to paint all 'white' Christians with the same broad brush. Content of character and actions trump color of skin or spiritual beliefs. Just sharing another perspective.

No disagreement there. My point is that there are Muslims who are not acting like Muslims - even though they say they are. We in the US have been living among American Muslims for generations. The terrorists who committed the atrocity of 9-11 are not the Muslims that we have lived among as Americans. There were Germans who committed atrocities in WW2 - but they did not represent all Germans. There are 'blacks' who have committed atrocities - but they don't represent all 'blacks'. There were Japanese Americans who actually fought for the US during WW2 - even though their families were incarcerated. When we begin/continue to judge actions rather than color of skin or religious beliefs - then we will truly be the land of the free and the brave. Being wise like serpents does not mean acting out of fear - and making irrational decisions about a race, a religion, or a gender.
By the way, I just want to repeat that I worked with Christians, Jews, and Americans of all hues during the Civil Rights era - and I know that many proclaiming to be 'Christian' were not acting like those that I worked with. Actions truly speak louder than 'words'.

there were many "Christians" against slavery and many spoke out against it at that time.
Now fast forward to today.
I would like to see the "Moderate Muslims" speak against Hamas and Hezbollah.
Sadly they remain silent. Now one might say they are silent for fear of a Fatwa being issued against them, but then again that proves my point.

Anyone catch 60 Mins tonight? I guess "liberal" media. I did not know at the Hallowed Ground at the Pentagon where the jet entered the building, a non-denominational chapel was built. This is quite fitting a use for those of all faiths in the military & DOD. Guess what they do at this Hallowed site.. roll out those prayer rugs & several times a day have a facing to Mecca to pray.

This fear of Islam can be handled through prayer and truth in this country. Handling this fear is important.
