The nation could definitly use a sensible grass roots movement to get back to a sane way of governance, but this ain't it. A major dose of awareness would be a big help. The general public got of lot of education,but intelligence, not so much.

If the Tea Party is going to have any kind of staying power and success, it cannot nominate complete flakes like O'Donnell, who is a terrible candidate in so many ways. Karl Rove nailed this one right away and while everyone is seemingly mad at the Repubs as they are the Dems, the TP throwing up some dreck like O'Donnell accomplishes nothing, besides making it rather clear that they don't have the answers either. The "any warm body" approach is just as flawed as re-electing the establishment over and over.

Rupert Murdoch has caused much of the polarization between democracy and the far right with his FOX "show," there is little "news" there.
Now it is easy to see that CNN, a great invention and service until they had to compete with FOX, they now have begun to indicate polarization toward the left side.
Much of this terrible propaganda going on is financed by Murdoch and the Koch brothers, oil zillionaires of old. Zoros also helps with CNN but his is more donations to good causes. Murdoch's money all is to influence managers and announcers at FOX to prostitute themselves, along with a horse stall out back of cheap women who assist in many ways.
Most of this sort of influence was started by the Duponts against FDR to stop Social Security in the 30s, child labor laws, etc.
he John Birch Society joined in next with their weird proclamations.
Then Goldwater chipped in against JFK.
Now the so-called TEA party: named for being Taxed Enough Already, and harping about Obama spending all of our money, when Reagan and Bush accumulated 85% of our current debt as republicans! This is OK though to the TEAS since debt is OK for the benefit of corporations and their taxes and "those who provide jobs!"
Now we have three groups of consequence: Democrats, Republicans, Fringes---most currently break-a-way Republicans as TEAS running as Republicans.
They want in addition to tax cuts for corporations the destruction of public schools, no regulations on corporations, banks, and other sordid ventures, are against laborers having any say-so, would provide no welfare or unemployment payments, for Christians only, and against women's rights as women, and certainly against elderly people who aren't wealthy.
It is necessary to be vigilant about those in government who stay too long and become manifest destiny types, as well as those who want to please everyone without a plan! That is why we vote often, however if wealthy people's money has too much influence and intelligent humans will work for them by prostituting their ideals and individual thoughts for a good job, then we must also coral those self-interests.

pulling our leg (and he will probably say I should have used are instead of is but since they are all encased in one brain-----). I do think he considers himself an essayist and poet. What is not aware to people who only check here occasionally is that he takes a position on an issue and when someone posts something championing the same position he takes a position that is diametrically opposed to his previous one. I can just hear that argument going on in his head----"Yes I am, no I'm not, yes you are, no you're not--am not, am too." Can you imagine living in the same house with this guy? Unless, as I have said before, he is a yes dear, no dear Mr. Milquetoast at home and vents (no pun intended) all that pent up energy and emotion here for our pleasure. Whatever the reason, he is like that uncle we all kinda, sorta love who has to disagree with everyone, likes to play practical jokes that fall flat, annoys everyone and then does something half way nice that redeems him--and after all he is married to sweet, long, suffering Aunt Gertie, who is beloved by all.

I have learned not to take many posters too literally or seriously on here, just like they don’t take me seriously. I think most are basically confused with facts that don’t come from government sources.
However, when I feel strongly about something I will go after them with facts. I miss Lindsey; he (she?) is so good at collecting factual information to refute the “Progressive” element.
It is amazing to me still how our opinions are shaped so much by our early teaching. I am a product of public schools and it took 40 years of independent study to find out that there is another view out there besides the government view. In the process, I have earned three degrees and I have discovered a new world that I never knew existed following my public “education”.

In my opinion we have at least two or three people on here who have "come-out," recently. Something they would never have done without this space.
I have no wish to socialize with that group but I do hope that they themselves have a better opinion of themselves for doing so. The banning of such behavior has been revoked nearly everywhere and is no longer the law. The religious connotations of it is their concern only. However I don't wish to hear about it too often, no more than I do religious fanatics who feel obligated to have everyone act just like they do!

Could you please let us know just how many times a week it would be okay to post about being gay, our religion or maybe which restaurants we prefer? Maybe even in your order of preference. Here's my analysis:
The Tea Party enthusiasm is the major threat to the Democratic candidates so there is going to be a massive effort the bring them down to Earth. The video of Christine O'Donnell describing worshiping on a satanic alter with blood all around it is going to be exploited by the Ds from now until the election. And why not? It plays directly into the Dem. Party strategy of promoting the kookiest aspects of the fringe Tea Party candidates then painting them with a broad brush all across the whole Tea Party.
On the other hand, insurgent political forces very rarely take over in a single election. Assuming the best for the Ds, the Rs barely miss taking the House. That's really the best the Ds can hope for in their dreams. That still is a huge shift; certainly enough to keep the Tea Party going through 2012. Can anybody think that the Teas are not going to be the major players in 2012?
The other major aspect of insurgent political forces is that they attract fringe groups. Fringe groups migrate toward any movement that is unorganized and threatens the status quo. So you've got a major political movement and then you've got the inevitable fringe groups grasping on. Completely predictable. Of course the other Party attacks the fringe element but that's also predictable and, in fact, real and on-going now.
This election sets the stage for the next one. Before that, the newly elected Teas in Congress will form some kind of organization or caucus and develop a coherent Tea Party structure. In 2012 there will be just about a zero chance that the Tea Party will have to settle for the fringiest unvetted candidates. Their problem is going to be picking from the abundance of candidates.
Radical realignment of political parties and structures is fascinating. The fun is just beginning.

If they had the enthusiasim of the Republicans and the Tea Party that would be something, because the elections that they lose will be a matter of voter turnout, which is a pathetic situation. carbonunit52, what you say about the enthusiasm in the Democratic Party is very true at the moment. However the party has had the courage to legislate in areas that are important to working families.
Moneyed up special interest are opposed to this legislation to protect their self interest. They have been willing to finance a very effective campaign to subvert the efforts of our elected leaders and win favor with the general public.
IMHO, it’s the Republican Party that is spineless. If a political issue in any way favors working people over a special interest, they will legislate in favor the special interest every time. They have the single-mindedness of a mob with none of the charm. They are slowly but surely becoming the Teaparty.

Republican, Teaparty,...what's the difference? Two legs on the same pair of pants!

Most of the National debt (13 trillion) was made by republican presidents not vetoing anything---proposed most of it!
We will devalue the dollar one day and balance the budget immediately. We sure can't balance it with 20% unemployment (if counted correctly) and 25% of "workers" paid by taxes, nor by clicking on computer keys and "services" only.
We can only sell services to each other! You know like TV ads?

Progressives look pretty safe to me
It's the moderate-to-leaning-left Dems first elected in 2006 or 2008 that are in the most trouble as far as the House goes. A lot of them were elected
due to some excellent campaign strategy by Pelosi and the Dems to get their majority in place, regardless of whether they were lefty enough or "progressive." Paid off for the Dems and Obama's progressive agenda as they were able to ramrod it through by hook or by crook.
Progressives get the full financial and campaign support from the national Dems because they are true believers and represent districts that like that agenda. The more moderate Dems are left hanging in the breeze and hoping they can survive. In some cases, pitiful opposition is going to help them and also help the Dems to likely keep their House majority.
ON the Senate side, Angle just might knock-off the hugely-funded and now neo-progressive Reid(I'm for all the Obama stuff as long as the gambling industry keeps backing me to the hilt like they always do), but then it gets real iffy. O'Donnell is sinking faster than the Titanic(15 points down and crumbling), but maybe Palin can stick her neck out for her some more and the country can kill two birds with one stone.
Don't see any historic route in November...Repubs chip away big at the House and come very close, but a little short. Probably a couple of seats still behind in the Senate too. After the terrible performance of Repubs in the last many years, it's a pipe-dream for them(or the Tea Party) to expect a mini-revolution this quickly.

...but don't trust the Repubs to deliver the solution, especially since the Repubs have been prime contributors to the problem. The public disgust over both parties is real evident and it's going to come down to local races with local voters as far as the House races. I don't see the Repubs taking over the House but they can come close.
The Senate became no chance as soon as O'Donnell was nominated so scratch that one right off the chart. People may be tired of tax and spend but they aren't going to elect just any kook that turns up on the ballot. There WERE enough fanatics to sneak her in as the nominee, which is kind of scary, but oh well.

"Tax and Spend," has been the yell since I was a little boy---a long time ago. Both parties say it a lot when they are not in power.
As a percentage of one's salary, I doubt it is any higher for taxes than it was in 1950! about $2,000 per year for middle class salary ($3,000 for supervisors.)
Tax would have been about $300-400 per year for income tax. Same percentage-wise for Social Security. Medicare has jumped it a little.
(I remember when a hospital room as $14 a day and a doctor's visit $3. Total baby delivery, $2-300.
As to O'Donnell not winning, you are correct---she might win a mayor's office somewhere.
Anyway the TEAS aren't about NO TAX, they are a voice for saying what a certain group of us want to hear. She doesn't even do that well.
Same with Palin.

It scared me. Someone as irresponsible financially as she has been her entire adulthood isn't really what I look for in Senator. She lied for years about her education and seemingly everyone who has worked for her thinks she's as nuts as some of the bizarre statements she has made. She's doing a free-fall in the polls anyway, so I think this will all just be yesterday's news pretty shortly.

Respectfully, I would agree that Ms O'Donnell is not among the best and brightest, however, she is one of Delaware's choices. Her prevarications are no worse than Mark Foley, Alcee Hastings, Charles Rangle, or Larry Craig. In my opinion, she represents main stream America more so than than those of Harry Reid's ilk who complain of the 'smell' in the capitol caused by American tourists.
Surely she'll be no worse than that gaffe prone Joe Biden who held the seat for thirty-six years. America is in dire need of new blood in Congress, on both sides.

Mike, pretty fair analysis. She certainly communicates better than many I've heard who are already in Congress. The MSM has grossly exaggerated her financial miscues without offering her major pro bono work as a possible reason and her verbal meanderings many yrs ago won't mean much to voters. As for "seemingly" opinions of those who have worked for her thinking she's nutso, just think how many folks have nEVER HAD ANYONEWORK 'FOR' THEM! Still think a surprise is in the making for Mr. Coons. As for Harry Reid, let's face it, Nevada's economy is in the tank and many voters attribute that partially to Harry. Old Army buddy in Las Vegas says popular opinion indicates Harry will be heading back to Searchlight!

O'Donnell has not even held a regular job for goodness sake. She didn't pay her college costs to her school until years later (recently) and still owes taxes. The fact that she liked witching as a fun thing, spends campaign money for gas and food and rent, has a "boyfriend" now and has never been married, doesn't turn me off much since a lot of congress had those faults (Newt-- while in congress-- for one and many others.)
Have we really sunk that low as to character and intelligence expectations of our representatives?

I agree about new blood. One term is enough--even for Boehner or Reid. Maybe two terms for the leaders.
I won't vote for Deal or Barnes either. I'm writing in a vote. Barnes will win though simply because he is successful!
If Georgia is an example of states totally running and paying for their own schools, then I am glad we have an education department in Washington.
That is unless you believe in only educating those of privilege!
The "patriotism" that Palin speaks of doesn't mean serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. The son was probably eager to get away from the nut house in Alaska! All those fancy words she spouts have no exact definition. It is like saying "a good Christian," and nothing else describing what that means to most! Some f the stuff she espouses certainly wasn't by Christ, (where the word Christian came from).
As to heroes, militarily, we don't seem to elect many of those for some reason (McCain, Bush, jr., Nixon, Reagan, Obama, Johnson, Roosevelt, and on back to Washington who was.
Some of those people wore the uniform but either in Hollywood or at a desk--even Ike never shot at anyone nor was shot at.
Comparing other non-bill paying, etc., people with O'Donnell doesn't improve her lack of character at all! She is a bum and not an intellectual.

I don't buy the approach of the "lesser of two evils" or "no worse than so-and-so." That's how you end up with people like Steve Brown and Don Haddix as elected officials.
I don't think those are gaffes that are giving her serious problems with voters in Delaware...I think she truly believes them. The bit about condoms being "anti-human...what's wrong with humans?" and "not protection against HIV" is rather scary. I think she's a real train wreck. Angle in Nevada I don't think is near as out there which is why she's giving Reid all kind of trouble right now and O'Donnell is falling fast in the polls.

Georgia is horrible in picking most candidates! But as an Independent I will have to write in Jimmy Carter.
I would really like to see Georgia have a Governor who would improve this state about schools, infrastructure (water, roads, etc.) and vetting candidates---even in Atlanta and small towns.
There are about a million or more employees we don't need and can't even keep auto plants nor much of any other industry. Oxy was worthless as a consumer protector and he ran for governor---at least he was eliminated.
We have some of the sorriest State school people and Secretary's of State and road commissioners of any state existing---including Alaska and Alabama and Florida who lives off yankee hotel money.
Is there any available to tackle that? Would our voters vote for them or do they lak hit lak hit air?

This one is real easy for me since I'm in the LP:) If Handel had won the Repub side of things, I'd probably vote for her as I think she would have been a far better choice than Dirtbag Deal or Roy Frickin' Barnes. I mean, yeesh.
I guess Handel wasn't socially "conservative" enough for the GA Repubs(she has actually talked to gay people without trying to kill them) and now they have to dress up Deal as nicely as possible. He's another Sonny-clone and Georgia could really use a lot better.

I was looking at my child's college history book and it makes me
want to cry.
we have come as close to a depression as I want to get, and maybe we will still have one. Thinking about where we are now it reads more like a doomsday book.
During the great depression they passed several laws to get the country up and running again.
What you understand right off the bat is that some people don't care how much human suffering it causes, how many children go hungry, etc, if they can just swill a few more dollars for their lavish lifestyle and vulgar ego.
What I found shocking is that the very rich have gotten every one of those laws removed.
1. Glass-Steagall Act- made banking reforms to curb the overzealous commercial banks and stock market. Their involvement in stock market (playing the market) was deemed the main culprit of the financial crash. The banks were taking too much risk with the little mans money..and the little man found his life savings gone. They repealed that law in 1999.
2. Public Utility holding company act of 1935- to facilitate regulation of electric utilities, by either limiting their operations to a single state, and thus subjecting them to effective state regulation, or forcing divestitures so that each became a single integrated system serving a limited geographic area. In other words to keep them from screwing you and selling your states natural resources to the highest bidder (La. gas to norhtern states) It was watered down and finally repealed in 2005. Have you looked at your utility bills?
I could go on with the laws..but you get the picture...
There are almost no laws with teeth to reign in the Wall Street bunch..BUT THERE WERE....
You are now victims of the greed of insurance companies..they want staggering premiums..but they find very devious ways not to pay. Who controls this..your elected officals. One, I call oxymoron, just ran for governor..he was too buzy to help the citizens (me) with problems with an insurance company on things I felt were/or should be/ illegal. It came out in the paper the same week he was "too buzy" to help me, is worthlest a@@@ was on a plantation OWNED BY AN INSURANCE CO. Is there something wrong with that?
