...Let's see if I can sum up the State of the Union address:
Guns bad, illegals good.
Cutting spending bad, spending more good.
Cutting Taxes bad, Increasing taxes good.. (allows more spending)
Opposition to his ideals bad.. Supporting Socialism..good.
Yep I got it.
We are still losing.... So we won one yesterday yippie.
However the overall lost/win ration for Government vs. Constitution is not really close and hasn't been for the last 50 years.
A Divorce really is the only option. Give the "Kind Hearted" Progressive Liberals what they want... Just confine them to certain Northern/Western States... the rest of us will take our Constitution and do just fine without them..
We can live without them...BUT... they can't live without us..
Love the divorce idea. My son-in-law saw a red and blue map by states the first time Prezbo was elected and he was amazed by it - specifically how such a small, although densely populated part of the country is controlling things.
Last week I showed him a red and blue map by county - an even bigger eye-opener. Using that map as the basis for a property settlement suits me just fine. We will have oil, farmland and a few ports so China can ship us stuff we can't make anymore. They will have NY, Boston and Detroit. By rights they should have San Fransisco as well, but that's too nice for them. Cleansed of its people, I would move there in a heartbeat. Maybe we can pick it up after they declare bankruptcy.
1. Each American has a vote. The majority vote wins
2. What 'government ' will replace the subsidies that the Red states get from the Blue states?
3. Why would China negotiate with the Red states? What industries can you offer China?
I think the Blue states would have the funds to support the military as a world power.
It just may be advantageous to get into counseling and work on the relationship. Humorous thoughts. LOL.
Just for fun - if the Blue States left the Red States :-)
1. Everybody gets a vote (or 2 or 3). Yes. Majority vote wins. No, that's part of the problem. I know Obama thinks he got a huge majority when it was well below 50%., but give or take a couple million, he has the same number of mindless supporters as he does strident opponents to his policies and actions.
2. The Red states will govern themselves just fine thank you. We will use the Constitution circa 1900. All the stuff since then like women voting and Senators being elected doesn't count. Didn't much like Prohibition either. Oh yea, we will all be armed. And all will be trained - 2 year required military service - like Israel.
3. China? Are you kidding? If the moron regulators and enviro whackos get out of the way we will start with oil and move into steel and autos. Unions would be banned. And remember, our red states can recruit technical and other talent from the blue states - all the person has to do is renounce silly liberal idealistic ideas, pledge to work full-time and promise not to get pregnant unless married and able to raise children.
And yes, for a while the blue states would have the funds to support the military, but remember your government would all be liberal Dems so military funding would be diverted to welfare. We'll take care of the military, thanks anyway. We already provide all the troops.
... She lives in the past. All of the Industrial might has come South to get away from the Crime and oppressive State Government.
The Republican Party and The Democrat Party needs to get ahead of this display of ignorance. Support the reasoned thoughts from both the conservative and liberal points of view. There are issues where both ideologies can come together in bringing this country together. The younger generation is there - they must become even more involved. Mr. Morgan, you aren't qualified to be at bat!
I am not talking about the Democrat Party or the Republican Party. Those 2 things are beyond help and have already divided our country - besides, there are too many people - 300 million. I am talking about Red states and Blue states or more specifically the people that live in them. It is obvious that if this country were to get a divorce (red from blue) there would be some migration between states. People will naturally use the opportunity to live with their own kind (no that's not a racist dog whistle - be calm). My own kind would be law-abiding, gun-toting, conservative, self-starters who are patriotic, Presbyterian and heterosexual - about 20% would be farmers. Others may dislike all those ideals and choose to be with a different "kind". Fine with me - go for it.
If my own kind exists in ample enough numbers to populate a state or several states, then the government we choose should reflect what we feel is important. One nation, under God, Second Amendment, God given rights, charity begins at home, all that good stuff. Again, others can live elsewhere and have different ideals and a government that reflects that.
I promise that we won't invade your blue states with a Christian Army that slaughters your homosexuals and tries to reform your single mothers (although forcing the homosexual men to marry and support the single mothers does have some practicality to it), but no, that's meddling. Nor will we interfere with any wealth redistribution systems you concoct. We will keep our army around our perimeter and the fruits of our labors (meaning our money) safely inside that perimeter. Hope you blue states do the same. Good luck.
You're a sweet, innocent man. God bless you. This country will not be getting a divorce anytime soon.
And like a true liberal you can't argue the actual issues and retreat to name calling. Great job babe. See you Monday at the school crossing.
You do it in such a sweet, gentile way - but you obviously see no hope in Americans living together with respect and dignity. Thank heavens you will remain in the minority - and there are too many good people in Red States who have no desire to live your kind of intolerant Americanism. Your way or the highway - and of course, your way is always 'RIGHT'. Name calling? Intolerant, ignorant, - in my opinion your words express these qualities. It is enjoyable and enlightening to read your opinion. Thanks for sharing.
I recognize there are dissatisfied people and we are all having a little fun with this piece. But I see the idea of having a "divorce" as a perfect representation of the main issue. The nature of any relationship is working together to form something beyond ourselves. It is the true nature of America. But this is impossible as long as a participant reserves the option to destroy the relationship. We all have seen this in personal relationships but somehow think it does not apply to politics, national discussion or foreign policy. By holding on to the divorce/destruction option participants enjoy a pride saver but forfeit what will develop through working together. I believe there is a well-intentioned movement here to hold on to values from days gone by. There is a lot of good in the good old days. But there is a subtle difference between fighting for what you like and honoring America.
From the Christian perspective, reserving all options that honor personal pride puts you at risk of elevating yourself above the Savior who came to reside in each person at their Baptism - to include the other people in the broken relationship.
This was tried during a conflict known as the "Civil War". The conservative southern side lost (they were Democrats back then, but they are Republicans now). It's just not happening, no matter how much you may wish for it. Either join the progressive side of history or, like the confederacy, end up on the ash heap of history. People like you have never won this type of fight, at least not for long, and you will not win now. This nation has always stepped forward into history, not backward.
Wow "Vortex" what a rant.
Something about your name comes to mind...
vor·tex [ váwr tèks ]
whirling mass: a whirling mass of something, especially water or air, that draws everything near it toward its center...
Oh that's right I just flushed... your post where it belongs.
Oh and btw---It's step forward into the FUTURE not backwards into history..
Not step forwards into history... by definition that's impossible but then again for a Progressive backward thinking and convoluted logic is easy.
If that old goat is back, he'll entertain us with some of his sonnets. (eyes rolling)
A few short sentences constitute a rant? You make a sophomoric comment about my screen name and then say something about my phrase about history, but add no logical rebuttal to my comparison to the Civil War. Hmm, interesting. Anything else to add?
...anyone that convolute's history as much as you did, getting it wrong btw than compares today's Government and issues with 1860's Government and issues doesn't really need to be taken seriously.
I mean really... anyone that posted what you did can't really be posting an intelligent, thoughtful and thought provoking post. Surely it was just witty repartee not to be taken as reasonable... Right?
Because if not... then dude, first read a little.
Start here... http://thecitizen.com/blogs/bonnie-willis/06-11-2013/i%E2%80%99m-frederi...
Once you have corrected your misconception of who was and who was not a Democrat... then we can start to have a intelligent conversation.
After all one cannot have an intelligent conversation with someone whose "facts" are so clearly distorted as yours are...
Really can we do this. LOL Let the progressives roll around in the sh** they created while we work and take care of ourselfs no way. This plan has my vote.
Dear Mr. Wall
Your separation offer is intriguing, however we would like to counter-offer the following:
Your tendency to whine and rant when you don't get your way has become intolerable, but as is the case with a spoiled child, you don't get to have your own house because you don't like the rules in this one. You do not get half of anything. This an all or nothing arrangement, but when you are of age, and so inclined, you are free to leave of your own accord. Your political leadership has exported freedom and democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan. Take your pick. I suggest Afghanistan. They have grown accustomed to the Taliban, so they are likely to be more tolerant of you absolutism.
Should you consider moderating your purely partisan world view you may begin to value the fact that Americans with differing opinions have coexisted for decades and can work together still, for the betterment of society and the country at large. Recently, we have allowed the existing state maps to be drawn into strangely shaped districts, allowing representatives of your party to have a slim chance at holding on to some influence. That's over. Sorry!
Taxes have paid for roads, bridges, airports, seaports and myriad other public infrastructure and services. When visiting your homeland, you will no longer be allowed to utilize the commons without a fee. We do not appreciate non-contributing slackers.
Without the obstructionist tactics of your elected representatives we'll be able to fill judicial vacancies. With appointments based on competency vs party loyalty our courts will be more capable of performing their constitutional duties.
You are correct on one point, we should acknowledge. We do not like war, and only wish to engage when all other diplomatic and trade sanction options are exhausted. You cannot have the police and military. We enthusiastically support our unionized police and firefighters and will restore their pay and benefits wherever they have been attacked. We honor our military men and women and will protect them, both on and off the battlefield, as they protect us.
We will not engage in personal attacks, even when someone that disagrees with us acts like a petulant child. We are above this silliness.
You cannot have capitalism, but while doing business here, you will abide by common sense regulations, intended to prevent abuses perpetrated by greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.
We will continue to care for the poor, the tired, and the hungry. We believe this to be a fundamental characteristic of what it means to be American. Penalizing the poor, tired and hungry should be considered cruel and unusual and shall be grounds for disqualification as a public servant.
We will continue to pursue diplomatic solutions in the troubled regions of the world. Might does not make right. We will tolerate the protestations of those who may disagree with us. It is their right. We will not ask for a "divorce" if they disagree. It is their right.
Citizens are entitled to maintain their own values, provided those values do not infringe on the actual, constitutional rights of others. This has always been so, and will remain so.
We will continue to respect and honor existing treaties and international alliances, until either are legally revoked or illegally breached.
Recognizing the potential shortage of healthcare providers, we will invest in medical education. We do this because we believe it to be our responsibility. Healthcare is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Yachts are a luxury!
Art and music, being essential to the cultural development of any community of people, will be supported with continued, and increased public funding. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Economic policies and strategies will be based on sound principles, with consideration of the public good.
History shall not be rewritten (even for the legacy of St. Ronnie). Traditions of flag and country are to remain. You may not be excluded from society for disagreeing, provided your disagreements are legal.
Additionally, if you choose to remain, you will be required to participate in anger management therapy. The outcome of which will determine your suitability to possess firearms.
Mrs. John J. Wall
...and that's my final offer.
Albion your cute response not withstanding why do pretend you do not endorse Socialism?
Your missive is replete with it.
But some things cannot be fixed and this "Union" cannot so.... you pay your half of the Attorney's fees and we will split amicably, if not it is going to get ugly and I am afraid you and yours will get the worst of the fight.
Perhaps you should spend some time on self reflection rather than wasting time trying to pigeon hole me for your own convenience. This is your tactic. It is simplistic and useless.
Your lack of patriotism is on display through the use of a plagiarized letter. Impressive! Your exclusionary world is slipping through your fingers. You are upset. It shows. Take a breath.
The political spectrum is broad. There are good ideas along all points of the line.
The take it or leave attitude is precisely where you have become derailed. Your terms will never be realized, so why not at least try to be a societal contributor vs. a guy screaming from the bleachers and having no effect on the game.
Our union is not perfect, it never was and it never will be. Trying to hold on to an America that never was is a fools errand. You will continue to be disappointed.
...and between Progressives turning this Country into some third World swamp and the Non-producers standing around with their hands out...all of which out number the productive class... Well albion there are some causes, like you for example, that is just not worth the effort any more..
BTW-how am I trying to "pigeon hole" you. Your blatant socialist ideas are on display for all of us to see.. Why there is no need for no pigeon holing...but if you are into that well that's your business.
Albion, Albion, Albion... I call it like I see it. I obviously touched a bit of a nerve. There is an old saying... throw a rock at a pack of dogs and the hit one always yelps... I hear ya albion...I hear ya.
Wow albion exaggerate much?
So I have a question for you... When the settlers decided to throw off the yoke of British rule, were they Patriots? So I re-posted a "letter" and somehow that makes me traitor... not that's really impressive.
My "exclusionary World as you define it...is quiet frankly one in which we lived in for over 200 years.
Self-Reliance not Government reliance.
Self Rule not Government rule..
Personal Responsibility not "It takes a Village"..
Personal God given Rights not Government defined Rights..
Equal Justice not Social Justice...
Equal Rights not Special Rights...
My "World" has made America the greatest Country on the face of the Earth why do you hate that World albion? Now that's telling more then anything else you have said..
Some believe Communism is a good idea... Just because "someone" believes it to be a good idea doesn't really make it so...
Again I go back to history... Our Country was founded on that very idea. Principles... Merriam Webster defines it as..
a : a comprehensive and fundamental law, doctrine, or assumption
b (1) : a rule or code of conduct
2) : habitual devotion to right principles
c : the laws or facts of nature underlying the working of an artificial device
So in order to live in your World one must compromise, even ones principals. Oh and btw-those guys screaming from the bleachers as you say well they are the ones that usually have the clearest view of what is going on...
What exactly is this America "that never was".
Was it the America where everyone had an equal opportunity to succeed and FAIL and then try again albion?
Was it the America where we didn't even lock our doors because Criminals were dealt with and not coddled and told it was Societies fault albion?
Was it the America where it was your personal responsibility to take care of yourself and your family and not Governments?
Was it the America where our kids could play in the neighborhood until dark you did not have to worry about predators stealing them off the street?
Was it the America where you could count on a good job and you felt gratitude for it not some attitude you were owed something?
Was it the America where a Education was earned and not given away?
Was it the America where a prayer at school didn't cause people go into epileptic fits from the Freedom from Religion crowd?
Was it the America where there was no Freedom From Religion crowd because they knew if they didn't want to participate they didn't...They didn't sue because a cross on a grave stone "offended" them.
Did you mean this America "that never was" albion?
You may have learned in school once upon a time, that democracy means different views get political representation, and views you don’t like sometimes prevail over yours. If you don’t like something, you rely on the democratic process to change it, and if you can’t change it, that’s your clue about being out of touch with the majority of your fellow Americans. You don’t always get to win. And, in a democratic society, you certainly don’t react to losing by threatening people, calling for mass slaughter and proposing to destroy the country. What do you think a democracy is? A one-party rule, where the majority of adult population is disenfranchised, and only those who adhere to a certain narrow set of ideas get exclusive political representation? That’s not democracy, that’s Stalinesque authoritarianism. Perhaps you need a refresher course in political science and American civics.
Perhaps you need a refresher course in political science and American civics.
If you think we live in a democracy, I'd suggest that you take your own advice. America is a Constitutional Republic . . . NOT a Democracy. If America were truly a democracy this district voting thing would be settled by the people through a vote. But the majority does not rule as you suggest. So I suggest that you re-think your previous post.
...like most of the uneducated and even the over-educated he/she believes America is a Democracy thus if a majority of Americans want Government to give them handouts the rest of us should just man up and give it to them..
Somehow he/she has equated a letter written by an individual expressing a certain view to destroying the Country and mass murder...
About all you need to know about his views. Dissension equals terrorist/traitors.
I thought Hillary cleared that up for him...
""I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic," a shrill-sounding Clinton shouted during her address to Connecticut's Jefferson Jackson Bailey dinner."
I guess albion didn't get that message.
In contemporary usage, the term democracy refers to a government chosen by the people, whether it is direct or representative. The term republic has many different meanings, but today often refers to a representative democracy with an elected head of state, such as a president, serving for a limited term, in contrast to states with a hereditary monarch.
The United States is a federal republic and a constitutional representative democracy.
The "constitutional" part means that we have a constitution, which is pretty obvious. The "representative democracy" part means that the people elect representatives to take care of legislative matters. Originally, the only part of the government that fit this description was the House of Representatives. Today, the Senate does, too, and in current practice, so does the Electoral College.
There are many forms of democracy. this is one. I understand that this is burr under many a conservative saddle. However, the facts, the history and the definition clearly support my earlier point.
The mass slaughter comment was out of order and hereby retracted. The rest stands.
Sorry I got a bit hyperbolic there!
Equal Rights not Special Rights..
