Does anyone know what happened at the Towne Center Kroger on Sunday night? We came through and all the entrances were blocked off there were police, fire engines - huge lights set up and also they had a set up across the street at the Publix complex, but that complex was not blocked off. Whatever was going on was mainly at the Towne Center facility. I'm just curious because ya know, living here I like to know what kind of crime is hitting closer to home, if it was crime. It may have just been some kind of bomb scare or leak of some sort but I would like to know. Figured the paper would have something on it, but didn't.

Towne Center Kroger

I was headed into the Asian restaurant at the end of the shopping center and a Fayetteville PD officer told us we had to leave the area due to a gas leak in Kroger. He said the gas detected was measured at near "explosive" levels so he proceeded in evacuating all of the stores in the shopping center.

Never ceases to amaze me.

It was not unreasonable to assume

the worst in this case. This type of official police and fire response has three possible causes (IMHO) and two of them are criminal: 1) Bomb Scare- someone calls in a bomb threat; 2) some sort of armed standoff in one of the stores; 3) a gas leak or suspected gas leak.
I have seen all three scenarios in play at one time or another. If there are any more that can be assumed, I cannot think of it right now.

of your 3 scenarios..

the "assumer" chose the worst one. I stand by my comments..folks LOVE to assume the worst.

Well, what about this?

"I'm just curious because ya know, living here I like to know what kind of crime is hitting closer to home, if it was crime"

is what the poster stated. It sounds like a questioning response and not an assumption. Many are noting that everyday crime is marching in this community with increasing frequency. Including you on posts here.
Unless you disagree with the gist of the poster's question- that crime is hitting closer to home. Is that where your disagreement lies?

Think you need to re-read the original post carefully and you will will find the disclaimer "if it was a crime" embedded in the post.

I don't see where anyone assumed anything--what did I miss?
