Page selection feature
Is it possible to add the page selection options, now at the bottom of a page, to the top also? I read new posts from old to new and usually there are several new pages of posts between my log ins. It's a bit of an inconvenience, minor I'll admit, to read up the page then run to the bottom to get to the previous page.
If one doesn't read the "recent" comments every few hours everything has then
disappeared to the "more" comments of some 125 pages.
Then when one reads one of those and goes back to "more" one must hunt where they were on the page to see the next one!
Since I don't read every post it is becoming too difficult and time consuming to keep up.
However, I want to say that the addition of the "more" comments was a good thing. At least it is there for awhile.
Maybe the first thing in the subject line should be to whom the comment is directed, then a colon and subject.
Not complaining but it seems to be getting more difficult to keep up for many.
Again, thank you for your Yeoman efforts.
This is why browsers have a 'Back' button. Just hit it a few times until you land on the comments pages you were looking at again. It's theoretically possible to store the last page number you were on in a cookie, but that would probably confuse more people than it would help. Additionally, there's no guarantee that the data won't have rolled over to another page anyway.
Adding in the original comment's user name can be done though. As soon as I can come up with a good way to represent who is the original comment author and who is the replying author, I'll make the change.
Hitting the "back" or arrow button gets you back only to the top of a page.
So you're saying you're lost vertically on the same page after hitting the back button? Which browser are you using? Good browsers don't just dump you back at the top of a page when you hit back, but rather open the page exactly as you left it.
What I'm saying is that if I am going through page 2 in the more comments area, click on the one I want to read, read it and then click on the back button, I go back to page 1 at the top---not page 2 where I came from!
Have yo tried it?
I use Google Chrome.
I can't duplicate your error. When I go to the second page of recent comments, click through to a link, and then click back, I wind up on the second page of recent comments.
Do you see why it is difficult to even discuss this?
It might be helpful if someone there spent a little time a day for awhile participating fully to see the problems!
Try to keep up with what was said yesterday for instance.
There is no "more comments" page, there's just some links that say "More Comments." This page clearly says recent comments in its title and URL:
http://www.thecitizen.com/comments/recent
Also, leave your trolling at the door when you enter the feedback forum.
I regret making it difficult!
I understand that when the words in red lettere at the bottom of "recent
comments' list is clicked upon (which say: "more comments") one gets a page which says again "recent comments!"
This is the area where comments apparently go first and remain there even after they disappear from the front page.
I'm just saying that the only place one can read up on comments after sevewral hours away is the "more comments" area, labelled "recent" comments.
And, in that area when one reads a comment from it, and goes back to the
area---even if you were on page 125, will get top of page 1 when you return!
That will be all I have to say about that, and you never know what you are going to get from a box of chocolates! Forrest Gump
I'll never enter "feedback forum" again. Dangerous!
Just a heads up. :)
I wasn't going to say anything.
My heads up, of character I am out.

(Since Sonnets only allow three every other line rhyming quatrains, and a rhyming couplet, I need to add more here as a comment:
This is not really a song--it doesn't have the proper Sonnet "beat", and is obviously done by an amateur.) (Sarah Palin).
Wasn't aware of all the possibilities you had. I was referring to the "recent comments" section which seems to be the lengthy string. As I said, not a really big issue but I usually wind up two or three pages down in the list to get to where I've left off. Now if you can resolve the political, teaparty and snarky discourse I would probably be on the same page when I get back.
How come when a forum has more than 1 page of replies and you click on a current comment it only takes you to the first page and then you have to hunt on the 2nd or 3rd page for the comment that you clicked on?
Talk about a real pain in the butt.
I posted an explanation of all things comments a week ago that answers this and several other things that people have asked about. I'm not sure that anyone has read it though.
That could be done. What pages, specifically, are you referring to? The recent comments page? Article pages? Forum posts? All of them?
To be fully transparent, this task is gonna wind up towards the bottom of the priority list. It is a good suggestion though.
