Why is it necessary to continue to add the tag line on Steve Brown articles that he is the former Mayor of Peachtree City? At this point in time, who cares? Is this tagline added by Mr Brown or the paper?

Standard journalism practice ...

... to identify opinion columnists, to give readers some notion of who this person is and what the writer's credentials are.

Check any other printed newspaper to discover whether this is the rule or the exception.

And online, it is called the world wide web for a reason: There's a whole world out there that doesn't know Brown from Smith, and increasing numbers drop by to read our stuff from time to time.

Just because you know who he is doesn't mean that everybody does.

The tagline is added by me.

Cal Beverly is correct. He should add the tag for columnists. If Newspapers had their way however, they would like to add a name to everything they print.

I think probably your real itch is that former Mayor Brown is a columnist. If I had to compare him to the Friday paper columnists, I would take Mayor Brown every time.

Only former mayor voted out of office

If the goal is to identify the author and tell us a little about him, why not go all the way and say he is the only former mayor of Peachtree City to be voted out of office as an incumbent. That makes it clearer to us when he comments on city-related issues and may provide some insight into his motivations.

What else can you say about him? Its not like he ever had a job or anything.

You da man, Can. No problemo

Thanks for noticing. I'm afraid Cal is mysteriously attracted to the brown clown and I want to get everyone focused on the background of someone he is promoting. Brown has not helped the city - why does Cal thinks he helps his paper?

thanks Cal for the information. Remember, Cals job is to sell paperrs and having Steve as a columnist with his opinions probably does not hurt. I for one have heard more opinions from Steve than I really need to but will continue to read the paper
