Taxpayers Have Spent $15 Trillion on 'War on Poverty'

Since President Lyndon Baines Johnson declared “war on poverty,” U.S. taxpayers have spent $15 trillion on so-called anti-poverty programs—a figure slightly less than the national debt.

“We are talking about a government benefit,” said Wood. “And therefore, in my mind, we can restrict how that benefit is utilized.”

This has turned into a liberal war on self-sufficiency. We ought to demand that only meat, fruits, vegetables, juice, milk, and bottled water can be purchased with food stamps. If we the taxpayer are feeding these people, we have a right to demand that they are able to purchase only healthy food with it. That is the way it was originally intended.
