I was at Wally World the other day in the check out line when I saw about 4 or so police escorting two people outside in handcuffs. As I was going out the door to my car I saw about 6 officers outside and it made me wonder why there were so many officers at the store. Sure seems like a waste of manpower IMO.

Well, you're making the

Well, you're making the assumption they were shoplifters.

Do you know if they resisted when they were approached and they called in other units?

Better to have a show of force if they did decide to flee or even worse pull a gun and start shooting... then you'd probably say: Why did they only send one cop?

I bet if they only sent one cop to the scene and the others were all sitting on the highway doing speed enforcement, you'd make the same comment about it being a waste when they should be "fighting crime."

By your comments, you say they had 10 officers on scene... I'd be surprised if they even ran that many on a shift.

All of this is only IMO, of course.

mjm1204,

"Well, you're making the assumption they were shoplifters."

True, my bad. Well, I did not see the officers carrying any extra weapons like assualt rifles, bombs or kevlar that the offenders might have had. Besides, I heard the loss prevention guy talking to a couple of employees right in front of me.

"Do you know if they resisted when they were approached and they called in other units?

As I said, I was in the checkout line.

"Better to have a show of force if they did decide to flee or even worse pull a gun and start shooting... then you'd probably say: Why did they only send one cop?"

"If" is a big word. So, you think SWAT should be called every time something happens in the city?

"I bet if they only sent one cop to the scene and the others were all sitting on the highway doing speed enforcement, you'd make the same comment about it being a waste when they should be "fighting crime.""

Hope you are not a "betting" person because you would lose big time. You assume you know me.

"By your comments, you say they had 10 officers on scene... I'd be surprised if they even ran that many on a shift."

Math 101, Word problems and comprehension. I said I saw about "about 4 or so police escorting two people outside". This means I was inside at the time and so were the officers. Key words here are "escorting" and "outside". Then I said "As I was going out the door to my car I saw about 6 officers outside". So, by the time I checked out, 4 officers went OUTSIDE and when I went OUTSIDE, there were about 6 officers. Thus 6 (outside when I went out) -4 (escorting folks outside) = 2 officers that were already outside. Sorry if I confused you.

Remember...

There's a check cashing place there... a pharmacy. Many other scenarios other than shoplifting.

Yep, there are other things

Yep, there are other things they might have been after. I knew a guy in NC that tried to pass forged prescriptions at a couple of pharmacies until he got caught.

I was just amazed at the number of officers at Wally World that day. Period. I have no hidden agenda regarding this subject.

With the way the economy is, I do wonder how much the shoplifting rate has increased.

Nope, I definitely picked up

Nope, I definitely picked up on your comments.... "sure seems like a waste of manpower"....

I would have taken your post differently if you would have left that comment out...

You already claim to know they were shoplifters and just made the article to bash the police presence.

Believe me, when you need them... you will be glad more than 1 show up.
