An open letter to President Obama

Dear Mr. Obama: Congratulations, you won. Apparently Rush Limbaugh was right — we are out-numbered. There are more of you than there are of us.

So, since I like being in the majority, I have decided to join you and your acolytes. All my life, since my junior year in college, I have supported myself and been a Producer.

Starting next year I am going to join you and your followers and be Taker.

I choose not to participate in your socialist utopia as a hard-working, tax-paying Producer. Next year I’m going to be one of you; I’m joining the Takers. I’m, as they say, “going to ground.”

Next year I will arrange to get myself laid off from my six-figure job, which by the way contributes a high five-figure income tax payment to the federal government.

I will live at subsistence level on what I have, and whatever federal Taker programs I can get qualified for. So the first loss to your socialist utopia is my substantial federal income tax payment.

I will no longer work and pay taxes. How stupid was I. Thank you for showing me the light.

I will now be a consumer of tax revenue at every level I can. I will endeavor to earn as little taxable money as I can, most certainly below the poverty level, and apply for as many of your wonderful assistance programs as I can.

Having been laid off from my job as a Producer, I will qualify for 99 weeks of unemployment, and as I made a good salary, I will get the maximum unemployment payment.

When that runs out, I don’t plan on finding a job. Instead I will apply for Social Security Disability Benefits.

And when I am denied, I will have one of those benevolent lawyers advertising on TV to sue the federal government for my benefits.

I will apply for welfare payments, as I’m sure unemployment benefits will keep me below the poverty level.

I will of course apply for food stamps, and I can’t wait to get my Obama phone. As you know the Obama phone does not pay those excise taxes and 911 user fees the rest of the Producers’ phones have to pay.

I will need a housing supplement or rent subsidy, or maybe I can get some Section 8 housing with cable TV.

My healthcare will no longer be Aetna or Humana or Blue Cross, which I used to have to pay for. I will now qualify for Medicaid, which is 100 percent paid for by your utopia.

Because I’ve never been a Taker before, I don’t even know all the programs I might qualify for, but I’m sure I’ll learn.

So ... not only have you lost me as a substantial Producer and financial contributor to society, you have turned me into a net drain on society.

Think about this. Not only will I not be paying high five figures in federal income taxes, I won’t be paying any state taxes and very few of the over 60 other taxes levied on American Producers. Instead I will be consuming as many or more taxes as I was paying. So the loss to society is double.

You hated me because I made too much money. Your own words to Joe the Plumber, “At some point I think you’ve made enough money.”

Did you ever consider what I did with the money I “made”? First, before it ever touched my hands, over one-third was confiscated by the federal income tax. Another 5 percent was taken by the state. These funds supported our government, and that’s important. But what I did with the rest the money is most important.

You see, I either did two things with what was left: I spent it, or I saved or invested it.

If I spent it on needed or wanted goods and services, our society benefited by someone else having a job to provide the good or service. The more I spent, the more jobs were needed. People were employed and they consumed goods and services and paid taxes.

If I saved or invested it, our society benefited by business having more capital (a terribly dirty word for you) available to expand their business and hire more workers to provide even more goods and services. Those additional workers consumed goods and services and paid taxes.

It’s called capitalism, and it absolutely works.

But I see that’s not what you and your followers want. My friends have told me if I do what I plan, and millions more see the light and do as I plan, the nation will collapse.

As I see it, with the Takers in the majority, the collapse of the nation is assured. Why not just get it over with? We survivors will start over.

(Post-election obituary, “... All who pass by will be appalled and say, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land?’ ... because they have forsaken the Lord.” — 2 Chronicles 7:21-22.)

Briggs Arrington, what a

Briggs Arrington, what a joker. So you would willingly give up a six figure income so you can collect free stuff from the government?

If you’re smart enough to make a six figure income, you either don’t appreciate what you have or you’re talking about retiring and going on Social Security. Either way, someone will be more than willing to fill the position you leave behind.

The only other possibility is, you’re just talking Ayn Rand gibberish! Eh?

Hi Gort, where you

been pal?

Working I hope to pay all those extra taxes next year. How long do you think it will take your company to outsource your job? Or how about deciding that it just doesn't work for them to provide health care benefits? Or maybe that they can do just fine with part time workers so they don't pay the health care tax? Dirty capitalists that they are, they will just look for some way to get around this mess outside the country I suppose.

Be sure to let us know when you lose your job and go on food stamps.

PTC_0, yup, still working,

PTC_0, yup, still working, can’t get enough of that do, ra, mi but I did suffer a major financial setback recently. Let me tell you the saga.

I was having a beer in this bar that has buckets of peanuts for thirsty patrons. As luck would have it one of the buckets was right next to my barstool. I look in the bucket and I see this one peanut. Not just any peanut! This peanut looked exactly like ‘Snoopy the dog,’ from the “Peanuts,” comic strip. So I snatch the peanut out of the bucket, put it in my pocket as fast as I could, pay my tab, and go home.

When I got the peanut home I examined it very carefully. This wasn’t some ‘Nixon Potato’ wanabe. This peanut was a spitting image of Snoopy. You didn’t have to hold it a certain way or shine a light on it. From every angle it looked like Snoopy and I was going to cash in big time selling it on E-bay ! MmmMmm, good times coming my way.

I took some pictures of the peanut and they looked okay but it needed something more. So I cut a piece of red lining out of my wife’s winter coat to make a scarf. From the finger of a brown leather glove I made a little aviators helmet. In my workshop I made a little white doghouse to set the peanut on and dress it up with the scarf and helmet.

Unfortunately I left my Snoopy peanut on the coffee table in the living room. When I went back to get it, the peanut was gone and my wife’ little dog Houdini was smiling and wagging his tale.

Gort - Maybe

You could see if you can start a new dog act, see if Houdini can escape from a weighted sack full of rocks from a raging river?

Just a thought.

Have a wonderful time with your finances this coming decade. Let us know if you get some of those peanuts the government will be doling out after your job is outsourced to China. Then you can concentrate on drinking and looking for food in the dumpsters behind rich people's houses. Oh wait! There won't be any rich people here we'll all be equally paying our fair share. The rich people will move to Barbados because they can be rich anywhere. Let's get the government to pass a law so they can't move and how about another law to stop outsourcing too! We can solve all our problems by just passing laws! You know fixing everything as we go. When any problem of any kind pops up we just get our government to mandate something new.

Then we can get the Houdini government to consume everything. Didn't the real Houdini use illusion? How appropriate!

PTC_0. I was fond of my

PTC_0. I was fond of my Snoopy peanut and I had high hopes for its commercial possibilities but I’m not going to kill my wife’s little dog because he ate a peanut.

So you think all the rich people are moving to Barbados? Nice weather. Are they moving so they can avoid a European style of socialism? Perhaps you should warn them. Barbados is Commonwealth nation and they already have government run health care, (child care too.) Sucks all the freedom out of the place doesn’t it?

Perhaps these 'cut and run' rich people would be more at home in one of the pirate cities of the Caribbean. Tampa was home for Gaspar the Pirate, the Republican’s had there convention there, but nowadays you have to wait eight hours just to vote! 8 - )

Anyway, have a nice Thanksgiving.

Gort - You

too pal, I be praying for people like you and DM.

BTW, I don't have any idea where the rich will move, but they will move because they can. Remember the Facebook guy that moved quickly to Singapore to avoid taxes in the USA? I think he took over a billion with him. Good for him but bad for people like you.

Great idea Mr. Arrington!

A few years "enjoying" Section 8 housing, food stamp groceries, and subsistence living on welfare will do you some good. You'll love the warm greetings you get at the County Health Department and being shunned by the private medical profession when they discover that you are on Medicaid. This will be a wonderful strategy to instill some empathy into a very arrogant heart. But please refrain from invoking Bible verses to buttress your positions. Even a cursory observation of Jesus' teachings exposes many more exhortations for social empathy than for the capitalism you worship. So that a boy; move out of your house today to enjoy double-wide living in the trailer park. Give us an update after a few years of “the good life.”

Fascist, Racist Pig

Mr. Arrington, you are obviously an unrepentant racist and a complete idiot. And because you feel so free to insult so many good and decent people, I have to feel free to insult you right back. You and your unChristian rantings are a plague upon the decent people of this nation. Shame on you. If you don't like what America offers, emigrate back to the banana republic from which you obviously emerged......

LOL...this about says it all

Please enlighten me to how this letter to the editor was in any way "racist" or "fascist?" I must have missed how dropping-out of society denotes not only a racist viewpoint, but a fascist one also. Bizarre. Oh yeah, he's a "pig" too, nice. Great work.

I didn't think much of that letter myself...sounded like the grumblings of someone who just woke up today and realized things are screwed up and was too apathetic or intellectually lazy to not have realized that a long time ago. But to say that the opinions expressed by Mr. Arrington are "racist" or "fascist" pretty much shows you have no idea what either term means and are also a clear indication of why this country is in serious decline. When you have citizens that are semi-literate and use bumper stickers and slogans instead of having to think, you get a crawl towards a lack of intellect that is frankly appalling in 2012 and would have been decades ago. "Racism!" "Fascist!" "Bullying!"

The Code Words from 1981 - Lee Atwater

It has become, for liberals and leftists enraged by the way Republicans never suffer the consequences for turning electoral politics into a cesspool, a kind of smoking gun. The late, legendarily brutal campaign consultant Lee Atwater explains how Republicans can win the vote of racists without sounding racist themselves:
You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”

Who do most envision as the 'takers'? Not so abstract anymore - and most people are tired of it.

I read, a few years ago, DM...

...that the largest demographic on welfare roles were white single mothers living in rural areas. Coming from a rural, agrarian area, I could believe this as true. My wife, volunteering at a food bank, once saw two small children - there w/ their mother - rip open a box of Corn Flakes and start eating right then and there.

I believe its easier for the news/cameras to catch a group of inner-city at the social service offices than it is in rural towns.

No body ever stated that the 47% that do not pay Federal Taxes and therefore do not contribute their fair share to supporting the infrastructure of the U.S. comprised a specific demographic. That was something made up by the self-loathing hypocrites that cry racism and find 'code words' in every statement or idea that they don't agree with.

And more and more realize that to label the 'takers' as a only one group in America is not true / and are moving away from this 'strategy'. There are those who don't want to admit what you have shared as reality. Thanks for sharing.

Mr. Arrington - Sadly

Those that are marginal in income will follow this narrative en masse.

So we fix our eyes on what is seen, but not on what is unseen and until what is unseen becomes painful, nothing will improve. The parasites cannot survive without the producers, the ultimate outcome is 1984.
