Florida GOP Primary
Mitt appears to be soaring as Gingrich's South Carolina momentum crumbles again under the assault of Mitt's money and his allies. The Party people are so horrified that Gingrich might get the nomination that they rounded up the long knives for the fight. Anne Coulter, Drudge, Elliot Abrams, Emmett Tyrrell, Bob Dole, Tom DeLay and other establishment Republicans had to take a number to get in line to trash Newt:
Romney seems like he is going to stomp Newt in Florida, by far the toughest, most expensive state so far with ten media markets. It looks like a double digit defeat for Newt but so what? A loss is not enough to make Newt pull out and the race then goes into a month of caucus states. Romney could be perceived as vulnerable again if he doesn't do well in every state. In any event, all delegates are allocated proportionally until April 1 which is almost a month after Super Tuesday. Why get out before then? They're just racking up delegates as bargaining chips; win, lose or draw.
We seem to be destined to be treated to at least two more months of Newt and Mitt flaying each other with millions and millions of dollars worth of vicious attack ads. Let's hope they can keep it up all the way to the convention. Given enough damage, the Dems might have a chance to take back the House.
