A former Fayette County basketball standout is making his mark at the college level in 2014.

Corey Williams is a freshman at Pensacola Christian College and has become a bigger presence on the floor as the season has progressed. He has appeared in 24 games so far, averaging just over 11 minutes and three points per game. Read More»

McINTOSH (boys lacrosse) lost 12-5 to Harrison Friday night. The Chiefs were led by Cameron Scott's 15 saves as goalie.

WHITEWATER (girls soccer) lost 4-0 to Union Grove Friday.

WHITEWATER (boys lacrosse) defeated Campbell 14-3 Friday to improve its record to 3-2 on the season.

LANDMARK (track) hosted seven varsity teams Saturday and finished third in both boys and girls competition.

STARR’S MILL (girls soccer) picked up a 3-0 forfeit win against Forest Park Friday, improving the team’s record to 7-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the region.

LANDMARK (girls soccer) won 10-0 Friday over Langston Hughes.

LANDMARK (boys soccer) defeated Langston Hughes 3-0. The War Eagles led 1-0 at halftime. Spencer Geerlings, Bassel Hojeij and Gained Coker scored goals for Landmark.

WHITEWATER (boys lacrosse) defeated Grady 18-11 Wednesday, coming out strong and gaining an early lead while stifling a late comeback attempt.

FAYETTE COUNTY (baseball) defeated Lamar County 2-1 Wednesday night. Austin (Bobo) Spruill pitched a complete game five-hitter and the defense made only one error. Kameron (Bam-Bam) Barlow was credited with several exceptional defensive plays. Wahid Ali went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored. McINTOSH (baseball) beat Newnan 4-3 Wednesday, picking up all of their runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Josh Ange had two hits and drove in two runs. Charlie Goedtke pitched five innings and struck out three.

WHITEWATER (boys lacrosse) lost 18-1 Monday to Lovett.

McINTOSH (girls soccer) beat Creekside 10-0 with goals by Hannah Graham, Anna Brachy, Rachel Green, Veronica Cappas, Jackie Gray, Taylor Malasek and Martha Trimbach.

BASEBALL

SANDY CREEK beat Tri-Cities 10-0 Monday. Collin Pike pitched 5 scoreless innings. Jared Jackson was 2-3 with a home run. Ben Weinhardt and Anthony Dodd were also 2-3.

LANDMARK fell 13-5 to ELCA Tuesday. The War Eagles tied the game at 5 in the bottom of the fifth and it stayed that way until ELCA broke it open in the seventh.

Softball tourney features teams from 3 states

The EC Bullets girls fast-pitch softball team, based on Tyrone, hosted a tournament last weekend at Meade Fields in conjunction with the Peachtree City Girls Softball Association. It was a fundraising tournament that was set up in a modified ASA format.

The field consisted of 24 teams from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee in two divisions. The A bracket was won by the Birmingham Vipers and the B bracket by the Ga Fire. Read More»

Lady Panthers edge East Coweta in OT

The Starr's Mill Lady Panthers soccer team escaped Sharpsburg Friday night with a 3-2 overtime win over East Coweta.

The only goal of the first half came in the 14th minute when Rachel Catlett sent a corner kick into the box for Jenna Currin to finish.

East Coweta took the lead with 14 minutes left in the second half, but Molly Moroney tied the score two minutes later.

The Lady Panthers got the win on a long throw by Lauren Yoss that bounced around in the box before Currin
forced it home.

The team improved its record to 4-1-0 on the season and will travel Tuesday to Westminster.
