5-AAAA football standings

As you read this, the final football standings for the regular season in Region 5-AAAA have likely been set. Before Friday’s games kicked off, things were far from certain.

Woodward and Sandy Creek were assured to be among the four teams from the region in the state playoffs. Carrollton, Fayette County and Whitewater all had a shot at joining them, as all three of these teams can finish anywhere from second to fifth in the region. Volleyball loses to Buford in close, four-game match

The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots saw their 2014 volleyball season come to an end Wednesday in a match against Buford. The final score was 25-20, 30-28, 23-25, 25-20. The Lady Patriots finished the season with a record of 45-8. Buford will play Marist this weekend at Marietta High School for the state championship. Photo/Bethan Adams.

Teams move on in volleyball playoffs

Five local teams are rolling into the round of 16 in the GHSA state volleyball playoffs after strong outings this week.
In AAAAA action, Starr’s Mill swept three straight games Wednesday against Hiram while McIntosh did the same against Alexander.

The AAAA bracket saw Sandy Creek win three in a row over Arabia Mountain and Whitewater pick up a road win against Grady by winning three out of five.
In the A classification, Landmark moves on by virtue of a sweep over Whitfield Academy. Our Lady of Mercy fell to Mt. Paran Christian in three straight. Read More»

The game has actually been around nearly 50 years. It was invented in 1965 by a man in the state of Washington who named it after his dog, Pickles.

The McIntosh High School cross country team had a great showing at the third annual Nike Panther XC Invitational.  The varsity girls took second, led by Alyssa LeClaire.  The varsity boys took fourth, led by Conner Reynolds. The junior varsity girls and boys both took first and were led by Maddie Smith and Justin Brown.
