Fayette schools get high student marks

Recently, Ms. Gail Onesi offered us her assessment of our school board and its performance. While I believe that everyone has different opinions and priorities that influence them, it is also important to consider the facts. The Fayette County Schools are consistently at the top of any performance measure.

I and many other airline people from Delta, Eastern, Southern and Northwest encouraged airline people to move to Peachtree City. Brown has facts on his side

When I moved to PTC in 2003, Mayor Brown was running for a second term. The letters in the paper from the developer crowd made me think he was not a very capable mayor, and did little right. Boy, was I wrong!

The special interest group prevailed, the mayor lost, and the city continues to suffer from it. Going forward I personally will form my own opinion by checking each candidate for their honesty and principles. Say what you mean and do what you say. The election for commissioner gives each of us a chance to check out each candidate and draw our own conclusion.

Smith stands for the people

The best criteria for a candidate seeking public office should be the same criteria to use for a candidate to run a successful business: i.e.; their history of accomplishing established objectives while maintaining a balanced budget.

If successful at their jobs, the candidate for either position is a good manager. A good “manager” talks with, listens to, and responds to their customers by meeting their needs and/or solving their problems. Read More»

If it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners (BOC) has just completed the annual budget process. Every year, for the three years that I have been a commissioner, the board has established certain guidelines for the various county departments. Two years ago the BOC implemented a cost-savings plan that included no new employee positions, no promotions, no raises and all current positions were frozen with the exception of public safety (i.e., Sheriff’s Office, Fire and Emergency Services, 911 Center and Marshal’s Office). Smith’s definition of ‘sanity’: $50 million road to nowhere

I was very surprised by Commissioner Jack Smith’s letter in The Citizen on June 16. Right off the bat, he said that a vote for him “is a vote for sanity in managing your tax resources.” Exactly what definition of “sanity” is he using to describe his actions?

This is the same guy who is building a $50 million road to nowhere with our limited resources (Georgia and federal highway departments found it did not score high enough and was too expensive). Read More»
