F’ville pitches $8.65 million roundabout plan for Hwys. 85N/92/Hood Ave. to county

A plan to fix the intersection of Ga. highways 92 and 85 North, plus Hood Avenue in downtown Fayetteville, was presented to the Fayette County Commission last week.

A big part of the fix is the addition of a roundabout to the west of the existing BP gas station, along with moving the traffic light on Hwy. 85 southward from the current Hwy. 92 intersection a few yards south to the existing non-signaled Hood Avenue intersection. Read More»

The need for people to live with an enhanced awareness of identity theft was the resounding message by Fayetteville Police Det. Mike Whitlow Oct. 26 at a fraud prevention seminar held at the Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville. Identity theft has been the fastest growing crime in the country for nearly a decade.

Whitlow at the seminar said such fraud includes many types of illegal operations like credit card theft, identity theft, fraudulent emails and skimming and counterfeiting checks. Read More»

Haddix nuked as regional transportation representative

It did not take long Monday night for the mayors of Fayetteville, Woolsey and Brooks to undo what had been done recently: the appointment of Peachtree City Mayor Don Haddix as one of the two Fayette County representatives on the Regional Transportation Roundtable (RTR) that will help decide on projects for the upcoming July 2012 vote on a 1-cent sales tax for regional transportation projects. Hwy 92 south of Fayetteville closed due to crash

Ga. Highway 92 at Hilo Road has been closed temporarily at 2 p.m. today after a dump truck struck a power pole, causing live power lines to fall across the highway, officials said.

Crews from Coweta-Fayette EMC are on the scene but an extended repair time is being predicted as a new power pole must be brought in to replace the damaged one, officials said.

Good sportsmanship stands as one of the most important principles a person can exhibit, according to the directors and employees at Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Corporation (EMC), which recently honored Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone with the 2010 Georgia High School Association’s Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.

Mary Ann Bell, the electric co-op’s Vice President of Marketing, presented the sportsmanship trophy to coaches and athletes at the high school on Nov. 4. The award represents good conduct exhibited during the 2009-10 school year. Read More»

McIntosh play wins region, going to state

The McIntosh drama department has staged their production of “Bang, Bang, You’re Dead,” a few times now, (there is a free performance, donations accepted, tonight at the school at 7 p.m.), and the show always gets an emotional reaction.

“We haven’t had a show where people didn’t cry,” said McIntosh drama teacher, Tanya Gruber. “It reaches people of all ages in very different ways. Kids can empathize with characters who feel that no one is listening and parents can see elements of their relationships in the ones presented in the show.” Read More»

PTC police hosting Facebook, online safety seminar

The Peachtree City Police Department is offering a class on online safety, particularly as it relates to the uber-popular social networking site Facebook.

The class will focus on features on Facebook and elsewhere online that can enhance safety and security, officials said. The class will be held Thursday, Nov. 18 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the police department.

In addition to an overview of safety and security features, there will also be a question and answer session to discuss all online and Internet-related topics, officials said. Read More»
