Flat Rock Middle hosts Veteran's Day event Wednesday

Flat Rock Middle School will hold its annual Veteran’s Day Program on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 9 a.m., in the school’s gymnasium, with grades 6-8 in attendance. Senoia’s ‘Idea House’ seen as good for local businesses

The halls are decked and so is the rest of the house. The Southern Living magazine 2010 Idea House in Senoia is all decked out for the holiday season and, since June, has seen more than 20,000 visitors tour the four-story brownstone. The Southern Living Magazine 2010 Idea House opened in Senoia on June 12. Since that time more than 20,000 people have toured the unique four-story, 5,000 square-foot brownstone. And the tide of people visiting the city during the past five months have made a significant impact on Senoia’s businesses.

Senoia Downtown Development Authority’s Suzanna Helfman said the impact to the community brought by the Idea House has been felt both by local businesses and by the community at-large. Read More»

PTC CERT wins state competition

Peachtree City’s Community Emergency Response Team has done it again, winning a recent state mock drill competition. 4 Fayette nonprofit groups recognized through Wells Fargo's Days of Giving donations

Wells Fargo managers and team members recognized four Fayette non-profit organizations with $1,000 grants as part of the Days of Giving program in metro Atlanta Nov. 10.

The groups were among 44 south Atlanta metro groups honored at a community breakfast today at Clayton State University’s Student Activities Center.

Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) recently honored Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School in Fairburn (north Fayette County) with the 2010 Georgia High School Association’s Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.

Mary Ann Bell, the electric co-op’s Vice President of Marketing, presented the sportsmanship trophy, which represents good conduct exhibited during the 2009-10 school year, to the school’s athletic director and athletes on Nov. 5. Read More»

Coweta school chief Bass to retire, Barker named new superintendent

Coweta County School System Superintendent Blake Bass announced this week that he will be retiring at the end of March.

Coweta County School System Superintendent Blake Bass will retire from his position on March 31, 2011, leaving a career that began in 1976. The announcement Wednesday was followed by one from the Coweta County Board of Education that named school system Director of Administrative Services Dr. Steve Barker as the new superintendent. Ga. Supreme Court to hold session in restored Coweta courthouse

The Supreme Court of Georgia will hold oral arguments in Newnan next Tuesday in the recently-renovated historic Coweta County Courthouse located downtown on the square. The court will hear two appeal cases involving a death penalty from Clayton County and one between Gwinnett County and restaurant owners over the responsibility for repairing a sinkhole. Read More»
