Pounds of pancakes for a good cause

Thousands of area residents flocked to the McIntosh High School cafeteria last week for the annual Kiwanis Pancake breakfast. The griddles were going all morning as pancakes were being flipped dozens at a time. In addition to the all-you-can-eat breakfast, younger visitors enjoyed face painting, clowns making balloon animals, tours of fire trucks and more. Seabaugh to state: don’t tamper with private accounts

Recent reports from around Georgia have noted that state tax refund checks were deposited into taxpayer’s bank accounts by the Ga. Dept. of Revenue then withdrawn with no notice or explanation, leaving account holders to ante up costs for late charges and bounced checks. But Sen. Mitch Seabaugh hopes to end that practice.

Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) on Monday introduced legislation that would prohibit any state agency from withdrawing money from a citizen’s account without express written consent from the account holder. Read More»

Sharpsburg girl’s find of a lifetime undergoes CT Scan

It was a rare find nearly as old as time itself when then-seven year-old Kylie Ferguson of Sharpsburg discovered the museum-quality fossilized skull of a saber tooth cat at South Dakota’s Badlands National Park in May 2010. Kylie and her family returned to the Badlands last week to watch as 3-D images of the skull were produced using a CT Scan. Sam's Club gives back at grand opening

The grand opening last week of the Sam’s Club store at Fischer Crossings in east Coweta County came an added benefit for a number of area’s non-profits and agencies. Store manager Darrell Arnold (bottom left) presented checks for $2,500 to the Coweta County 4-H, Coweta Boys & Girls Club, Peachtree City Fire Department, Civil Air Patrol, Community Welcome House, Corral, Coweta Community Food Pantry, Coweta County Fire Department and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

ECMS Spirit Night Monday at Newnan Chick-fil-A

The East Coweta Middle School is inviting parents, friends, faculty and the community to join them at the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House in Newnan on Feb. 7 to show their support for the school chorus. Chick-fil-A will donate a percentage of all sales between 5-8 p.m. to the ECMS Chorus Program.

Mrs. Julia Lotti is in her second year as Director of Choral Activities at ECMS. Under her direction, students have received Superior ratings in Performance and Sight-Reading at The District VI Large Group Performance Evaluation and have been selected for Honor Chorus and All-State Chorus. Jobless rate in Coweta, Newnan held steady in December

Unemployment figures in Coweta County and Newnan held steady in December, with Coweta showing a jobless rate of 9.6 percent and Newnan coming in at 11.5 percent.

Jobless figures from the Ga. Dept. of Labor show the unemployment rate for Coweta County at 9.6 percent again in December, having held steady from November. The December figure translates into 5,662 people out of work in a workforce of 58,925.

PTC gourmet grocer Fresh Market to open March 9

The Fresh Market specialty grocery store will open its Peachtree City location Wednesday, March 9 at 9 a.m. at the Peachtree Crossing shopping center, company officials have announced. The first 1,000 customers on opening day will get a reusable shopping bag and a sample-sized bag of the company’s gourmet coffee. Read More»

Tags from 29 counties at new Sam’s Club, 40% Fayette, 39% Coweta

The Sam’s Club store in the new Fischer Crossings commercial center on Ga. Highway 34 in east Coweta County near Peachtree City opened last Thursday to much fanfare and many shoppers. But where did all those shoppers come from?

A survey of vehicles on Thursday morning and again Saturday afternoon showed the crowded parking lot populated with shoppers from 29 Georgia counties. Of those, 40 percent of the vehicles were from Fayette County and 39 percent were from Coweta County, according to an actual count of auto license tags by a reporter for The Citizen. Read More»
