A Newnan man has been charged with numerous counts of identity fraud and theft after Peachtree City Police and the Secret service staked out local automated teller machines (ATMs). Gregory Anthony, 40, of Prescott Court, Newnan, was arrested Oct. 22 and taken to the Fayette County Jail, police said. Read More»

The 100-plus members of the Spirit of McIntosh Marching Band from McIntosh High School will close their 2010 season with a performance of their show “Corrida” at the 31st Annual Old South Marching Festival & Competition on Nov. 6 at Newnan High School. The award winning band participated in two competitions this year receiving all superior ratings for the band, drum majors, color guard, and percussion. Medical crews honored for work with injured athlete

The EMTs, firefighters, life flight personnel and the neurologist that attended to Starr's Mill High School Junior Varsity football player Grant Aasen after a whiplash injury two weeks ago at a ball game at Northgate were honored after the coin toss at the game Friday night between Starr's Mill and Northgate. The injury and Grant's full recovery after the emergency surgery at Atlanta Medical Center is nothing short of a miracle, said Grant's mother Tina.

For Starr’s Mill High School JV running back Grant Aasen and his family it was a special night. The responders and medical personnel who attended to him, provided the transport to Atlanta Medical Center and rendered care at the facility two weeks ago following an injury sustained at the football game at Northgate High School were all on hand last Friday night to be honored for their efforts. The on-field ceremony was held after the coin toss and just prior to the Oct. 22 varsity game between Northgate and Starr’s Mill. Read More»

Senoia Police to hold open house for kids/adults Saturday

It’s been a long wait but it will be worth every minute, especially for the kids. Staff at the Senoia Police and Municipal Court will hold an open house at the new building on Howard Road on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The open house is meant to be festive, with trick or treat activities for the kids along with games and a costume contest that will begin at 11 a.m. Tours of the new facility will also be provided. Read More»

Sept. jobless rate: down in Coweta, up in Newnan

Unemployment figures released early Thursday by the Georgia Dept. of Labor (DOL) shows a small decrease in Coweta County but an increase in Newnan. The Coweta rate came in at 9.1 percent in September while the rate for Newnan came in at 11.1 percent.

Throughout Coweta the unemployment rate fell a few tenths of a percent in September. The jobless rate decreased from 9.4 percent in August to 9.1 percent last month. That figure compares to an unemployment rate of 9.8 percent a year ago. The current numbers reflect more than 5,300 people out of work in a county workforce of 58,398. Read More»
