PTC cops ID man taking photos of kids, seek warrant

UPDATED Monday, 7:15 p.m. — Peachtree City Police have identified the probable would-be photographer whose approach to some children playing near the Braelinn ballfields Saturday afternoon upset some parents.

A magistrate judge is reviewing the matter to determine if probable cause exists to issue a warrant, said Police department spokesperson Rosanna Dove Monday afternoon. Read More»

'Joyful Noise' filming at 'The Fred,' seeking extras

“Joyful Noise,” the latest film from the producers of “The Blind Side,” is offering free tickets to a gospel choir concert scene starring Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, featuring a performance by superstar Kirk Franklin and appearances other film, television and Broadway stars.

The event will take place Monday, Mar. 14 at The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. Extras are asked to arrive at 7 a.m. and be available for six to eight hours. Read More»

Fireball Run coming to Peachtree City this fall; film crews to record competition for movie

In late September, Peachtree City will host a competition among auto enthusiasts called the Fireball Run Adventurally.

This year’s Fireball Run will take nearly 50 teams over 2,500 miles in eight days. Along the way, teams will solve clues and compete in challenges in an attempt to earn points.

Film crews will capture the fun, which will become part of a movie that will be screened initially in Orlando, Fla. later in the year. Read More»

Two PTC teens arrested in Feb. 26 golf cart thefts

Two Peachtree City juveniles are looking at felony charges in connection with two Feb. 26 golf cart thefts in the Kedron area. The juveniles, both age 16, were charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property, said Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove. Read More»

Work on Newnan cancer hospital to begin in April

This artist’s rendering shows the new Cancer Treatment Centers of America hospital soon to be constructed in Coweta County’s Ashley Park commercial development off Ga. Highway 34 near I-85. The planned opening of the 200,000 square-foot hospital is anticipated for September 2012.

Issues relating to a delay in beginning construction of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) hospital in Newnan have been resolved. The company earlier this week said site preparation work is expected to begin April 1 with initial construction to begin in June. Spring is nearly here and the banjo and guitar picks were flying recently, along with a host of other instruments, as more than 30 area residents gave an impromptu performance at Pickin’ on the Square in downtown Newnan.

New Piedmont Newnan Hospital to keep same name

Piedmont Newnan Hospital explored the idea of changing its name when the new eight-story replacement hospital on Poplar Road opens for business next spring. But responses from those participating in a community survey led to the decision to retain the name. 

Piedmont Healthcare Media Relations representative Jim Taylor said the community survey was initiated through an advisory council of local citizens that was formed after Piedmont Healthcare worked with the Newnan Hospital in 2006 to finalize the acquisition of the current hospital facility and the plan for a replacement facility.
