Fireball Run coming to Peachtree City this fall; film crews to record competition for movie

In late September, Peachtree City will host a competition among auto enthusiasts called the Fireball Run Adventurally.

This year’s Fireball Run will take nearly 50 teams over 2,500 miles in eight days. Along the way, teams will solve clues and compete in challenges in an attempt to earn points.

Film crews will capture the fun, which will become part of a movie that will be screened initially in Orlando, Fla. later in the year. Read More»

Two PTC teens arrested in Feb. 26 golf cart thefts

Two Peachtree City juveniles are looking at felony charges in connection with two Feb. 26 golf cart thefts in the Kedron area. The juveniles, both age 16, were charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property, said Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove. Read More»

Work on Newnan cancer hospital to begin in April

This artist’s rendering shows the new Cancer Treatment Centers of America hospital soon to be constructed in Coweta County’s Ashley Park commercial development off Ga. Highway 34 near I-85. The planned opening of the 200,000 square-foot hospital is anticipated for September 2012.

Issues relating to a delay in beginning construction of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) hospital in Newnan have been resolved. The company earlier this week said site preparation work is expected to begin April 1 with initial construction to begin in June. New Piedmont Newnan Hospital to keep same name

Piedmont Newnan Hospital explored the idea of changing its name when the new eight-story replacement hospital on Poplar Road opens for business next spring. But responses from those participating in a community survey led to the decision to retain the name. 

Piedmont Healthcare Media Relations representative Jim Taylor said the community survey was initiated through an advisory council of local citizens that was formed after Piedmont Healthcare worked with the Newnan Hospital in 2006 to finalize the acquisition of the current hospital facility and the plan for a replacement facility. Local Tea Party speaks out on transportation, immigration

Approximately 60 people attended the Feb. 22 committee meeting of Fayette County Issues Tea Party. The meeting, also attended by members of the Senoia Tea Party movement, was held at the Peachtree City Library and was geared to update the audience on the ongoing work of the organization’s various committees. Among the issues that apply to Coweta and Fayette counties were the regional 1-cent transportation sales tax referendum coming in 2012 and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011. Madras Middle’s Nancy Williams finalist for state teacher of year

Twenty-seven-year educator and Madras Middle School teacher Nancy Williams has been named one of 10 finalists for 2012 Georgia Teacher of the Year. The winner of the competition will be announced at a statewide banquet to be held in May.

Coweta Pre-K lottery registration March 7-18

Parents who wish to secure a spot for their child in next year’s Coweta County School System Pre-Kindergarten classes can do so at their child’s district school between Monday, March 7 and Friday, March 18.

During that time, parents can apply for a spot in the limited-space Pre-K classes for the 2011-12 school year. Pre-K application ends at noon on Friday, March 18, and drawing for spots will be held at schools at 1 p.m. on March 18. Read More»
