Change your clock (and your battery) this weekend

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John W. Oxendine wants to remind Georgians that they must change their clocks to daylight saving time earlier this year – and they should also change the batteries in their smoke alarms at the same time.

A McIntosh High School graduate who lost both of his legs in an explosion while patrolling in Afghanistan in August will be coming home Memorial Day weekend.

Flooded bridge in south Coweta

The Coweta County Road Department at 3:45 p.m. Wednseday announced that HInes Road in the southeast portion of the county has been barricaded due to creek waters over the bridge. Hines Road connects Cecil Hunter Road and Hwy. 54. The Road Department will continue to monitor the situation. Drivers should avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Whitewater's HOSA going to national competition

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) at Whitewater High are advancing to the national competition after earning top four placements in the region Competitive Events Program.

A total of 26 students are heading to nationals in Orlando, Florida this June. Over half of Whitewater High’s DECA Club members who advanced to the state competition earned top placements, qualifying them for the national tournament in Louisville, Kentucky next month.

Arrests in separate kidnapping, molestation cases

An investigation that began in October concerning two women who kidnapped and robbed an elderly north Fayette woman after claiming to be police officers has resulted in one arrest. In another case, an Ashburn man has been charged with aggravated child molestation.

Paula Aurelia Youngblood, 55, of Birmingham, Ala., has been charged with impersonating an officer, kidnapping and robbery, according to Fayette County Sheriffs Office spokesperson Brent Rowan. Read More»
