At Crabapple Lane Elementary School fifth grade students participated in a hands on Science lesson by creating their own working electrical boxes. As a part of the unit on electricity students designed, created, and then wired shoebox rooms with working lights and home-made switches. This fun project helped reinforce Georgia state standards on electrical circuits in a real-life situation. Pictured here are students Haley Mason and Quinn Maston. DA: murder charges expected for infant death

A 5-month-old infant who died Friday had suffered injuries from having been shaken, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard has confirmed.

Law enforcement is expected to seek murder warrants in connection with the case, Ballard said, though he declined to say whom might face those charges. Read More»

Tornado watch in effect until 8 p.m. Monday

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 8 p.m. Monday for much of north and central Georgia, including Fayette and Coweta counties.

The tornado watch, issued at 1:30 p.m., also includes a wind advisory. Winds are expected to increase through the afternoon and begin decreasing after sunset. Sustained winds could reach 20-25 miles per hour with gusts of up to 35 miles per hour.

Safety flare causes minor injury to man at Braelinn Village

A man was treated and released at Braelinn Village Shopping Center Feb. 26 after a safety flare accidentally ignited.

Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove said officers responded Saturday to the parking lot at Braelinn Village Shopping Center at 11:47 a.m. in reference to a person receiving a chemical burn.

Police officers and firefighters arriving at the scene discovered an unknown device that had exploded in the hand of the victim, Dove said. Read More»

Babysitter arrested in death of N. Fayette 5-month-old

Stephen Anthony Haire, 22, of Franklin is accused of mistreating a five-month-old Fayette child who died Feb. 25 when he was taken off life support.

A Franklin man has been charged in connection with the death a 5-month-old north Fayette child after statements he made to investigators were inconsistent with the child’s injuries. Read More»

Burch students go to Capitol art exhibit

Robert J. Burch Elementary art students Jared Davis and Analucia Yanar recently represented their school at the Capitol Art Exhibit in Atlanta Georgia.  Students received certificates for their accomplishments, met with area representatives Virgil Fludd and Matt Ramsey, and were treated to a reception in their honor.  Students in schools from all over the state also participated.

ARC: Coweta population to swell to quarter-million by 2040, Fayette to 168,500

A new population forecast for the 20-county metro Atlanta area prepared by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) shows Coweta County’s 2040 population at nearly a quarter-million people, more than double the estimated 2010 population. Meantime, the population in the 20-county Atlanta area is expected to increase to 8.26 million during the same period, an increase of 57.1 percent over 2010. Read More»
