PTC sewer system gets clean audit

Peachtree City’s Water and Sewer Authority has received a clean bill of financial health.

The authority got a “clean audit” with no findings from the CPA firm of Mauldin and Jenkins.

The audit was presented to the authority Monday night.

Though there were no findings of any irregularities, Mauldin and Jenkins is recommending the authority purchase software to handle the accounting of capital assets. CPA David Irwin said the authority currently tracks its assets in an Excel spreadsheet which could be affected by entry errors. Read More»

Heat lamp played role in PTC house fire

A house fire that gutted a home on Gelding Garth in Peachtree City last week is being blamed on a heating lamp.

Fire officials said Thursday that the heating lamp was used by the family on the back porch of 100 Gelding Garth to help keep their dog warm. The Feb. 26 fire destroyed the back porch area and also cut significantly into the house.

No one was hurt as about 20 firefighters responded to the scene to battle the blaze. The fire was reported by a neighbor and by the time the first fire crew arrived flames were visible from the rear of the home.

3-year-old taken from Tyrone home, dad arrested

An Alabama man was arrested on charges of kidnapping after removing his 3 year-old biological daughter from her mother’s home in Tyrone Feb. 24 and taking her to the home of relatives in Alabama. The child was returned to her mother unharmed.

Tyrone Police spokesperson Steve Lafferty said Jeremy Nicholas McCart, 24, of Glencoe, Alabama, was in Tyrone at the home of his wife on Feb. 24, where the two were apparently trying to work out their problems. Read More»

19 year-old arrested in high school robbery
