Fayette master gardeners contribute 88 percent of fresh produce to Atlanta food banks in 2010

Fayette County has become the breadbasket for Atlanta's hungry, according to a news release from the Fayette master gardeners organization.

Fayette County’s master gardeners have grown, harvested and contributed free of charge more than 86,000 pounds of fresh food to the Atlanta Food Bank, or nearly nine out every 10 pounds received by the Atlanta area campaign in 2010. Read More»

Payless Shoes and Holiday Helpers grant wishes of angels

Thanks to Payless Shoe Source in Fayetteville and Helen Rickman of Fayette Holiday Helpers, 150 students in need of shoes on the CARE (Children at Risk in Education) Angel Tree will have their requests granted.

The 2010 Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids program is a grass roots campaign to deliver $1.2 million in free shoes to children of families in need. Read More»

Order ornaments for American Legion tree by Wednesday

The Civitans and United Daughters of the Confederacy continue to offer the community the chance to order personalized Christmas ornaments to honor our veterans. The tree is located in front of the American Legion Post 105 Log Cabin in Fayetteville and is being decorated with 6 inch Christmas balls.  Individuals may order an ornament for $10 to honor a veteran. The name, rank, branch of service and date served will be printed on each ornament. To place your order, contact Linda Robinson, 770-460-1119.  Deadline to order is Dec. 15. The ornaments will be available for pickup after the holidays.

Congratulations to the Braelinn Grade-Level Poetry Recitation Winners. These students won at their respective grade levels in the school’s poetry recitation contest and will go on to compete at the county level next quarter. The reciters were judged on the following elements: difficulty of the poem, memorization and accuracy, stage presence, articulation, interpretation and style. PTC church burglar linked also to Coweta break-ins

It turns out that the arrest last week of 24 year-old Peachtree City resident Joseph Michael Robinson on charges stemming from the burglary of two churches in Peachtree City solved the cases of additional break-ins, including the burglaries of two churches in Coweta County.

Robinson was charged with the Nov. 22-23 burglaries at Peachtree City Christian Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church, both off Ga. Highway 74 North. Items taken in the burglaries included cash, computers and musical instruments, according to law enforcement sources. Read More»
