Former Tyrone cop arrested for child molestation

Former Tyrone police officer Matthew New was arrested March 11 by investigators with the Fayetteville Police Department on 41 charges involving children, including child molestation and aggravated sexual battery. New resigned his position in Tyrone in late February while under investigation for unrelated policy violations.

The 38-year-old Fayetteville resident was arrested on the basis of an investigation by Fayetteville police that began Feb. 2, said Chief Steve Heaton. The former Tyrone officer was initially arrested on two charges of child molestation, Heaton said. Read More»

David Williamson, Battalion Commander for the Peachtree City Fire Department was selected by his peers as the 2009 Firefighter of the Year.

Community Wellness Day event needs your help

Dr. Matthew Davis of Crossroads Chiropractic in Sharpsburg participated in an event called Kids Day International a few years ago but the event grew and so did Davis’ scope of how the event could benefit the community. Kids Day International featured a lot of things geared towards teaching children about health and safety, but Davis felt that the parents, guardians and loved ones of the children who came to the event needed that information as well. Change your clock (and your battery) this weekend

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John W. Oxendine wants to remind Georgians that they must change their clocks to daylight saving time earlier this year – and they should also change the batteries in their smoke alarms at the same time.

Oxendine said the annual change from standard time to daylight saving time, whenever it occurs, is a good time to make sure your smoke alarm is working as it should. Read More»
