Children grades K-5 are invited to enter the “My Mother is a Gem” contest and win a beautiful Amethyst and Diamond pendant valued at $500 to give to their mother on May 9. The prize necklace may be viewed in the store Monday through Saturday 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.  Children are asked to write a short paragraph explaining why they feel their “Mother is a Gem.” No purchase or donation is necessary. Second graders at Braelinn Elementary ‘Jump Rope for Heart’

Students at Braelinn Elementary in Peachtree City jumped at the chance to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers. In February at Braelinn Elementary the first, second and third graders held their second annual Jump Rope For Heart event.

Students jumped rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association, which funds cardiovascular disease research and public and professional education programs. Read More»

Two men sought in Rite-Aid robbery

Two men are being sought in the Sunday night robbery of the Rite-Aid pharmacy on South Glynn Street in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said two black men entered the store at 9:46 p.m., grabbed the manager and demanded money. The men were described as 5’6”-5’8” and 5’4”-5’6” in height, said Crawshaw. The men wore dark blue or black pants and hoodies and wore ski masks, Crawshaw said.

Information on the location of the money and the amount taken was not available, Crawshaw said. Read More»

Peeples Elementary School fourth-grade enrichment students took a field trip to the Fayette County Crime Lab recently. The students were impressed to learn how local CSI officers use fingerprinting and shoe-printing, get help from drug- and bomb-sniffing dogs, and store evidence and weapons. Booth kids participate in Vision Walk

Warrior Team Demmitt raised $615 at the Vision Walk on Mar. 14.

On Sunday Mar. 14, the JC Booth Middle School Builders Club participated in the Vision Walk in Atlanta. Vision Walk is the national signature fundraising event of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Since its inception in the Spring of 2006, the program has raised over $10 million to fund sight-saving research.  Booth’s “Warrior Team Demmitt”  walked the three miles to support Mrs. Demmitt, the J.C. Booth nurse, who is gradually going blind due to an eye disease.

 Warrior Team Demmitt raised $615, double the amount from last year.  The event raised a total of $101, 615.32.

Walmart delivers $15K grant for senior meals program

Fayette Senior Services has been awarded $15,000 through a Walmart Foundation grant to the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA).  The money will provide Fayette Senior Services Meals On Wheels program with a much-needed storage freezer, coolers, and computer equipment that is critical to the operations and management of the Meals On Wheels program to continue serving seniors in the community.
