The day finally came. The Sam’s Club at Fischer Crossings held it’s ribbon cutting at 8 a.m. Thursday and opened its doors to shoppers at 8:30 a.m. The retailer is the first to open at the expansive Fischer Crossings retail development permitted for nearly 800,000 square feet of commercial space. Mystery smoke fills some PTC neighborhoods Sunday night

Residents in Peachtree City neighborhoods north of Ga. Highway 54 and on the east and west sides of Flat Creek Road and around Northlake Drive got a smoky surprise Sunday night. But units from the Peachtree City Fire Dept. and police officers cruising the streets could not find the source of the smoke.

The haze and smoke began well before 8 p.m. and by that time fire units were driving area neighborhoods trying to locate the source. That search as of 9 p.m. came up empty. Read More»

Arrest made in north Fayette armed robbery, shooting

David Parnell, 41, is awaiting extradition to Fayette County on numerous charges including aggravated assault, armed robbery and burglary for a Jan. 10 incident at a north Fayette convenience store.

Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators today announced the arrest of an Alabama man who shot a north Fayette convenience store clerk during an armed robbery Jan. 10.

David Earl Parnell, 41, of Troy, Ala. was identified based on forensic evidence and video surveillance obtained at the BP located on Ga. Highway 138 near Ga. Highway 279, investigators said.

Parnell was arrested Thursday, Jan. 27 by the United States Marshalls Service in Huntsville, Ala. and he is currently in the Madison County (Ala.) jail awaiting extradition, officials said. Read More»

PTC girl cleared of gang charges forced to change schools

Eight female students from Booth Middle School and one from McIntosh High School in Peachtree City were arrested in December on gang-related charges. One of those girls, Gabby Santamorena, was later cleared of the charges, yet the 13 year-old is not being allowed to attend her school and has been transferred to another middle school by the Fayette County School System. Country music artist Randy Houser was a one-man show Thursday morning for the opening of the Sam’s Club at Fischer Crossings. Houser opened the ribbon-cutting ceremony by singing the national anthem and later sang a number of selections for fans. Employees at the new 136,000 square-foot Sam's Club, the company's largest store in the Southeast, were met by long lines of customers when the doors opened for the first time at 8:30 a.m. Sam's Club is the first retailer to open at the Fischer Crossings retail development located at Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road in east Coweta County.

Public policy educator to discuss civility at the Carnegie

Dr. Susan Herbst, newly appointed President of the University of Connecticut and currently Professor of the School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech and Executive Vice-Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer of the University System of Georgia will discuss her recent book, “Rude Democracy: Civility and Incivility in American Politics” at Newnan’s Carnegie Library on Jan. 31.
