Coweta approves major commercial center, car dealership, on Hwy. 34E

The Coweta County Commission at its Feb. 15 meeting approved the rezoning of nearly 30 acres along Ga. Highway 34 just east of Hollz Parkway for nearly 190,000 square feet of commercial space expected to include a car dealership and mixed use commercial with medical and office space. The proposal passed on a 4-1 vote.

The proposal by JHP Family Investments, LLLP for the Jackson Place development included the rezoning 21.8 acres from Rural Conservation (RC) to Commercial Minor Shopping Center (C-6) and 7.6 acres from RC to Heavy Commercial District (C-8). Read More»

Injuries avoided when car crashes into store

No one was injured when a Sharpsburg man accidentally drove through the front door of the Lenscrafters at The Avenue shopping center in Peachtree City early Thursday afternoon, police said.

There were people inside the business at the time, but they escaped injury when the vehicle crashed through the front, police said.

The driver was identified as B.J. Curry, 73, of Sharpsburg. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said in a news release late Thursday.

Coweta Pre-K lottery registration March 7-18

Parents who wish to secure a spot for their child in next year’s Coweta County School System Pre-Kindergarten classes can do so at their child’s district school between Monday, March 7 and Friday, March 18.

During that time, parents can apply for a spot in the limited-space Pre-K classes for the 2011-12 school year. Pre-K application ends at noon on Friday, March 18, and drawing for spots will be held at schools at 1 p.m. on March 18. Read More»
