Fayette schools have unused space for 4,791 more students

The Fayette County Board of Education tentatively adopted the FY 2011-2012 General Fund budget on June 7. And while the budget will be balanced using the majority of the fund balance from June 30, such an approach will not work the following year unless the state and local economies recover at lightning speed or unless millions in expenses are cut.

One of the falling revenue sources is linked to falling student enrollment. The Citizen recently looked at current and past enrollment numbers at the individual schools and the percentage of student capacity at each school. Read More»

Peachtree City police are looking for two gunmen who robbed the Pizza Hut in Braelinn Village early Saturday morning.

TEEN CERT Camp this July in Peachtree City

The Peachtree City Police Department will be hosting a Teen Community Emergency Response Team (TEEN CERT) camp beginning July 11.

The classes will be held Monday through Friday of that week ending on July 15. The classes will start at 8 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. each day. The camp will be held in the training room at the Police Station located at 350 S. Hwy 74, Peachtree City, Ga. Read More»

5 arrested on gang charges in PTC

'Savage Life' suspects also charged in 2 robberies

Peachtree City police have arrested three adults and two juveniles in connection with alleged gang activity and two separate robberies in the city.

The suspects are associated with a local gang called “Savage Life,” police said.

4 arrested in Fayetteville Walmart theft

Four Decatur residents who stole a bank bag from the Fayetteville Walmart today have been arrested by police, officials said.

The incident happened late Thursday morning as two black men entered the store, with one serving as a lookout whlie the other took a bank bag from the customer service area at the front of the store, police said.

A manager saw the theft and watched the men leave the store in a Chevy truck, which allowed him to give the vehicle description and license plate to 911 operators. Read More»
