Sany pitches development authority, seeks break on impact fee from PTC

Dennis Drewyer, speaking on behalf of Sany, the Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer coming to Peachtree City, addressed the Development Authority of Peachtree City (DAPC) Monday night. Teacher selected as Honored French Citizen

Sandy Creek High’s Stephane Allagnon is the latest person to be listed as an Honored French Citizen by the French Consulate, Southeast region.

Allagnon, a French teacher and foreign language department chair at the school, as well as president of the American Association of Teachers of French, now joins a growing list of other honorees from the region that includes the states of Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. Fayetteville student wins share of Georgia Federal Credit Union’s $10K in scholarships

Sandy Creek students top in nation at handling personal finances, part of Financial Capability Challenge

When business teacher Jaime Nicks at Sandy Creek High heard about the newly launched National Financial Capability Challenge, she couldn’t pass it up.
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced the Challenge in December 2009 to promote financial education among high school students across the country. More than 76,000 high school students and 2,500 educators participated. Read More»

Students receive $2,500 Merit Scholarships

Graduating seniors at Fayette County High and Starr’s Mill High are among the 2,500 students nationwide receiving National Merit Scholarships.

Kathryn McCord (Starr’s Mill), Sonika Reddy (Fayette County), and Jessica Lambing (Starr’s Mill) will each receive a $2,500 Merit Scholarship to help offset college expenses. Kathryn plans to major in biology; Sonika is planning a career in medicine, and Jessica has set her sights on secondary education. Sonika is also the salutatorian for Fayette County High. Read More»

Fayette public schools recognize National School Nurse Day and 10-Year anniversary

School nurses are an important part of the total educational program in Fayette County Public Schools. The school system is fortunate to have a school nurse at all 29 of its schools.

In recognition of the contributions school nurses make to students, school staffs and parents everyday, the school system has signed a proclamation identifying May 12 as National School Nurses Day in Fayette. This school year also marks the 10-year anniversary of school nurses in Georgia and Fayette County. Read More»

Students, parents and the community at-large are encouraged to show Fayette’s teachers how much they are appreciated for the work they do by honoring them during National Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7.

Great teachers have had an impact on every individual at some point in his or her life. Every year the finalists for Fayette County Teacher of the Year reflect on that one teacher who made learning fun and helped them feel special. 5th graders beat regional and state percentages on writing assessment

The Spring 2010 Georgia Fifth Grade Writing Assessment results show that Fayette’s students on average outperformed their counterparts across the state.
Fayette’s scores breakdown as follows: 20 percent did not meet the standard, 70 percent met the standard and 10 percent exceeded the standard. A total of 1,569 students were tested. Read More»
