Radio station finds ‘new life’ with new frequency

WMVW, New Life FM, has been broadcasting inspirational music and bible teaching out of Griffin for 15 years, on 90.7 FM, which reached areas such as Mansfield, Conyers and Covington. This past Wednesday, at 12:30 p.m, a switch was flipped for a new frequency for the station, 91.7 FM, this one reaching places like Peachtree City, Senoia and Tyrone. Read More»

Coweta Goes Green for 40th Annual Earth Day

When striving for a sustainable future, even the smallest actions, and people, can make a huge impact.

A recent Earth Day poster contest at Western Elementary School in Newnan proved just that as young minds created artwork reflecting a mature and thoughtful environmental awareness not often seen in adults. Coweta Judicial Circuit awarded federal funds for drug court

Coweta County May 18 joined Troup and Carroll counties in signing an intergovernmental agreement for federal grant money to fund the Coweta Judicial Circuit Drug Court Program.

Commissioners agreed to accept the federal funds through the FY 09 Recovery Act’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistant Grant in the amount of $428,292.

Across the three counties, the three-year grant funds will pay for items such as drug program coordinators and a case manager, travel mileage, a copier and supplies. Read More»

Kwakye earns B.A. from Agnes Scott

Candace Kwakye of Newnan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, she also graduated Cum Laude, during May commencement exercises at Agnes Scott College. Kwakye is the daughter of Theresa Kwkaye and Richard Kwakye.

Chaplain Landon home from the Middle East: Surprises family and church with unexpected arrival

Father Jonathan Landon, who serves as a Chaplain (Major) in the United States Army, surprised his family and his church by returning from Kuwait earlier than expected.

On Sunday, May 16, Mrs. Landon surprised her children by announcing that it was time to go meet their father at the airport. The children didn't expect their dad home for another two weeks or so. Read More»

Lester completes Air Force basic training

Air Force Airman Tommy A. Lester graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

May Day the Cops Way coming to Palmetto

The 2nd Annual May Day the Cops Way will be held by the Palmetto Police Department on June 12 at Veteran’s Park from noon until 4 p.m.

The public is invited to attend. Officers and staff will have free activities for the kids along with face painting, safety kits, cotton candy and snow cones, food and drinks.

Veteran’s Park is located on Park Street and Virginia Avenue.

The Senoia Area Historical Society is sponsoring a bike riding tour of Senoia on Saturday, June 5, starting at 9:30 a.m. The tour, for riders of all abilities, is a fund raiser for the society. Proceeds will be used to preserve and display artifacts for the museum.
