900-student Trinity Christian School looks to expand

The Coweta County Development Authority earlier this month signed a resolution expected to lead to bond funding that would help with an expansion project at the Trinity Christian School on Ga. Highway 54 that would add 15 classrooms at the east Coweta County campus.

CCDA President Greg Wright said the authority at the April meeting approved an inducement resolution for Trinity.  Read More»

Whitewater High’s Mullen takes Fayette Teacher of the Year honors

Whitewater High School math teacher Jacqueline Mullen took top honors April 19 when she was named the 2012 Fayette County Teacher of the Year (TOTY) at a ceremony held at the north campus of New Hope Baptist Church.

School system spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach said Mullen choked back tears as she thanked a long list of teachers from her past whom she said are prime examples of excellence in the profession. Mullen said it was her mother, a school teacher for 33 years, who gave her the passion to become an educator. Read More»

Two new principals named for Coweta schools

The Coweta County Board of Education on April 17 named new principals who will assume their posts on July 1. Dr. Schwanda Jackson was appointed to serve as principal of East Coweta Middle School and Vicki Vaughan was appointed to be the new principal of Arnco-Sargent Elementary School.

Coweta County School System spokesman Dean Jackson said the school board made the appointments at a called meeting on April 17. Both appointments will become effective on July 1.

Crabapple Lane Elementary 8th Annual Red Bird Run took place Saturday, March 24, 2012.

It consisted of a 1 mile fun run and a 5K road race, which is part of the Peachtree City Rotary Club Elementary Grand Prix race series.

This event was a success with many local business sponsors, over 400 runners, music, games, food and fun.

11 Coweta students finalists for Governors Honors

Eleven Coweta County high school students have been chosen as finalists for the 2012 Georgia Governor’s Honors program. The group will attend a six week instructional program this summer at Valdosta State University.

Coweta County School System spokesman Dean Jackson said the students are among 700 state-wide finalists who were chosen from over 2,400 nominees. Read More»
