McIntosh play wins region, going to state

The McIntosh drama department has staged their production of “Bang, Bang, You’re Dead,” a few times now, (there is a free performance, donations accepted, tonight at the school at 7 p.m.), and the show always gets an emotional reaction.

“We haven’t had a show where people didn’t cry,” said McIntosh drama teacher, Tanya Gruber. “It reaches people of all ages in very different ways. Kids can empathize with characters who feel that no one is listening and parents can see elements of their relationships in the ones presented in the show.” Read More»

Coweta teacher keeps job after felony charge is downgraded

Charges against a Coweta County school teacher were downgraded from aggravated assault to two misdemeanor charges relating to an alleged poisoning incident in January involving her husband. McIntosh, Whitewater top Fayette graduation rates

The Georgia Department of Education (DOE) announced last week that statewide high school graduation rates have risen to an all-time high of nearly 81 percent. While great for Georgia, the Fayette County School System for the same period showed a metro Atlanta-topping graduation rate of 94 percent.

The county’s individual high schools saw graduation rates ranging from 91-97 percent, according to figures released by the Fayette County School System. Read More»

Whitewater band wins second Grand Championship

The Wildcat Marching Band had an outstanding performance last Saturday, Oct. 30 at the "LaFayette Marching Classic" at Fayette County High School. In Prelims the band placed 1st in the Class 4A division, receiving all superior ratings for band, percussion, and color guard. The color guard and percussion also placed placed 1st in Class. Sara Harp Minter students study early exploration of the Americas

Fourth grade students at Sara Harp Minter Elementary have been studying Early Exploration of the Americas. Their studies culminated by choosing a minimum of 3 detailed projects on Early Exploration. Projects reflected their understanding of challenges and problems solved by early explorers who had limited technology to guide them. Students created New World Menus, Papier-mâché globes showing routes taken by explorers, built ships reflective of the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria, and showed their artistic abilities by drawing monsters, giant creatures, and mermaids in the ocean. Whitewater technology students win award at state fair
