This 2010 Fayette County Earth Day was held at Shamrock Park in Tyrone April 17. The widely-attended annual event will included educational exhibits and presentations, a green market with eco-friendly products and services, entertainment and special awards for schools and organizations.

3 in Fayette appointed to state advisory boards

Three prominent Fayette County residents have been appointed to different statewide advisory boards by Gov. Sonny Perdue.

County Commission Chairman Jack Smith was named to the Board of the Georgia Leadership Academy; Development Authority Chairman Randy Hayes was named to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Warm Springs Memorial Advisory Committee; and Fayette County Election Board Chairwoman and real estate appraiser Marilyn Watts was named to the Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board.

Tea Partiers turn out in force in PTC

Drake Field near Peachtree City Hall on April 15 drew an estimated 1,800 people for the Tax Day Tea Party sponsored by the Fayette County-based South Atlanta Tea Party Patriots.

The Fayette County-based South Atlanta Tea Party Tax Day 2010 event held April 15 at Drake Field in Peachtree City drew a crowd of nearly 2,000. Radio talk show host Herman Cain was the event’s featured speaker. Patriotism and a call for respecting freedom the Constitution were key elements of the event.

Historic courthouse on track for summer completion

The rehabilitation of the landmark 1904 Coweta County Courthouse is on schedule for completion sometime this summer. Coweta County commissioners April 6 authorized several work orders for the $6.284 million project.

Among the change orders were those that carried credits of $65,981. They included replacing aesthetic finishes with higher impact resistant finishes in the basement restroom, a value engineering alternative to delete resilient flooring in several rooms and the deletion of a lift in the upstairs courtroom. Aire Traffic jams for local fundraiser

Florida-based Aire Traffic puts on a show for more than 250 at the April 10 fundraiser for the Race for Riley.

The annual Race for Riley fundraiser for the Joseph Sams School in Fayetteville has a new participant this year. The Florida-based group Aire Traffic played for more than 250 people Saturday night at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center, offering their own mix of jazz and rock. Senoia was one of nine stops on this year’s Georgia Cities “2010 Heart and Soul Tour” Wednesday morning. Business leaders, developers and state representatives arrived in the the city’s historic downtown area, taking time in the one-hour stop-over to visit a number of businesses and explore recent downtown development. Members of the City Council, Downtown Development Authority and business owners were on hand to welcome the busload of guests from around Georgia. The tour is sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association.
