ENCORE! Fayette expands outreach

Some will remember it as ENCORE! Fayette, the initiative that formed in 2009 and was Georgia’s first older-adult volunteer leadership program. Today the emphasis has expanded and the organization will begin holding classes in late January under a new name that expands its vision: ENCORE! Fayette — Center for Creative Involvement.

The organization’s expanded vision is set to include both those already retired and those not yet in the 55-year-old/retirement category. Read More»

Hwy. 54 W. postal annex may close

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) like many corporations continues to look for ways to cut costs. Though no decision has been made, the USPS carrier annex that opened a few years ago on Ga. Highway 54 just west of Fayetteville is being considered for closure.

USPS Corporate Communications representative for the Atlanta District Michael Miles said Tuesday the closure of the Hwy. 54 carrier annex building is up for consideration and is being studied, though no decision on the issue has been made. PTC gets national accolade: best place to raise kids

Peachtree City has been named one of the 50 “best places to raise kids” in the United States by Bloomberg Businessweek.

Although residents are well-versed in the myriad of recreational offerings available for the younger set, Bloomberg was concerned with public school performance, safety, housing costs, commute time and other factors including the percentage of households with children, adult educational attainment and diversity. Civil Air Patrol in PTC gets new plane

The Peachtree City Civil Air Patrol Squadron, with air operations based at Falcon Field, has just received a brand new airplane, a Cessna C182/G.  The aircraft, which squadron commander Lt. Col. Dave Mitchell tells us “… is valued at over $500,000, is the first new airplane that CAP in Georgia has received in two years and we are honored that it came to Peachtree City Falcon Field Composite Squadron GA-116.” Read More»

Creek rolls to victory

The Sandy Creek football team took home its third state title in four years tonight at the Georgia Dome with a resounding victory over Ridgeland.

Creek's defense was stout against Ridgeland, not allowing a touchdown until the final minutes of the game. The Patriots amassed a 31-0 lead by halftime and cruised the rest of the way.
