Vineyard Church holds Kids Block Party

It was a fun time for the kids when the Vineyard Church recently held a Kids Block Party on Main Street in downtown Senoia. Some of those “kids” seemed to be disguised as adults, with parents enjoying the festivities as much as their children. The block party was a way of supporting youth and extending the church’s mission into the community.

DOT: No problems with ramp meters at Hwy. 74/I-85

Red-light ramp meters at the on-ramp for Interstate 85 northbound at Ga. Highway 74 became operational July 1.

The meters are programmed to kick in only when interstate traffic is heavy, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The agency is touting the meters as a tool to improve travel times and reduce congestion. Read More»

Oakley Blvd. in Fairburn to be widened

The traffic snarls for Fayette residents making their way to I-85 via Ga. Highway 92 will see some improvement in traffic congestion on Oakley Industrial Boulevard with the award of $1.5 million to add a third lane and turn lanes between Fayetteville Road and Ga. Highway 138.

The $1.5 million grant award to the South Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) by way of the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank was announced last week by Gov. Sonny Perdue. Read More»

Kids of all ages enjoyed watermelon eating contests and other Independence Day festivities at Drake Field in Peachtree City Saturday following the annual parade. The city celebrated the Fourth a day early this year, culminating in a spectacular 18-minute fireworks display over Lake Peachtree that was enjoyed by many thousands. See other holiday photos here.

PTC woman selected as National Guard Fire Marshall

The Georgia Army National Guard announced that the Army Guard’s environmental officer, Capt. Karen Corsetti, has been selected for the newly instituted position of National Guard Fire Marshall for the 14,000-member Georgia National Guard.

Capt. Karen Corsetti of Peachtree City, who currently oversees the Georgia National Guard’s Invasive Species Management program was selected for the position which will involve continuous inspection, prevention and education measures for the more than 73 National Guard armories and installations located across Georgia.
