Newnan author pens books for kids

Author and Newnan resident Tricia Kvidt enjoys acting and the arts. But recently Kvidt, who is also the mother of four young daughters, has turned her creative experience to writing books for children. The three-book series is entitled “The girl and the little brown mouse.”

Kvidt explained that her idea for the series of three books was loosely based on her six-year-old daughter. The first two books, “Friends Forever” and “Big Sisters” are currently available at Amazon and www.createspace.com while the third in the series, The Goodbye,” is expected to be available by April. Early voting starts for Dist. 71 seat

6 in running for Coweta-Fayette seat vacated by Stokely

The race is now officially on for the vacant District 71 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives.

Rotary tree recycling project a success

More than $1K raised to help Samaritans food bank

The “Give One to the Chipper” event each January is a favorite “Service Above Self” project of the Rotary Club of Peachtree City.

This year on Saturday, Jan. 5th, some 32 Rotarians along with several family members and friends volunteered to staff the Christmas Tree chipping locations at the Kedron Kroger and the Peachtree City Home Depot. The community was invited to bring their trees for chipping to these locations and the volunteers assisted in unloading their trees from the cars, trucks, trailers and yes – even from golf carts. The 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday observance was held Monday morning in Fayetteville. The festivities began with the annual parade and were followed by celebration activities at the Lafayette Education Center that featured keynote speaker Julius Pryor, III.

Fayetteville man named Coweta Beekeeper of the Year

A Fayetteville man has been named the 2012 Coweta Beekeeper of the Year by the Coweta Beekeepers Association. Jerry Edwards began beekeeping as Castle Rock Honey over seven years ago at his home in Fayetteville and now has multiple hives in both Georgia and West Virginia.

Edwards received the honor on Dec. 6 at the association’s annual Christmas party in Newnan, according to 2011 Beekeeper of the Year Steven Page. Edwards is the retiring president of the association and is the newly elected president of Georgia Beekeepers, Page added. Read More»

PTC responds to harassment cases with training program

In response to several harassment complaints filed recently by city employees, Peachtree City will host mandatory “workplace harassment” training the end of this month, according to City Manager Jim Pennington.

All city workers will be required to attend the training and the process will take about two weeks, Pennington said. The city is contracting with an outside firm to provide the training. Read More»
